CALGARY, Canada – Having played just 24-hours earlier, the No. 8 U.S. Women’s National Indoor Team met familiar opponent in No. 31 Uruguay in the 2024 Indoor Pan American Cup crossover. Like the previous match, USA was dominant in scoring as they shutout Uruguay, 5-0.

The opening minute saw both teams produce circle entries, but it was Uruguay who got the first shot off. In the 4th minute, Sofia Ferri (Phoenixville, Pa.) used strength in the right corner to earn USA a set piece. On the play, Reese D’Ariano’s (West Chester, Pa.) lift was stopped by Uruguay goalkeeper Maria Bate. The United Eagles remained on the front foot and earned another penalty corner where Hope Rose (Dauphin, Pa.) had her shot denied by Bate. In the 7th minute, D’Ariano used speed down the right and passed it across to Ryleigh Heck (Ocean City, N.J.) in great position for an easy finish. The quarter closed with USA leading 1-0.

Uruguay really compacted it into a defensive zone making it difficult to generate attack. Midway through the second frame USA earned a penalty corner and this time, Rose scored to the lead. With 49 seconds to go before the break, USA was awarded a set piece and D’Ariano tallied to make it 3-0.

Two minutes into the third quarter, Ferri notched her first international goal, after picking off a Uruguay defender who tried to dribble out of the back. In the 26th minute, Ferri had a powerful shot that was blocked by Bates, but USA earned a penalty corner and Rose tallied on a second chance to make it 5-0. Uruguay put the red, white and blue under pressure but good stops by Elizabeth Tamburro (Phoenixville, Pa.) and patient defense kept them off the board.

Holding a comfortable lead, USA did add any more goals in the final period and held off Uruguay to register the 5-0 shutout.

The USA women will play in the 1st/2nd place match against No. 30 Argentina at 8:15 p.m. ET. The winning women's IPAC team will punch their ticket to the FIH Indoor Hockey World Cup. Fans can watch the full event live pay-per-view on Watch.Hockey
