The safety of its participants is of paramount importance to USA Field Hockey.

USA Field Hockey has a ZERO TOLERANCE for abuse and misconduct. This includes not only on the field, but also safety off the pitch in any of USA Field Hockey’s programs.

Playing field hockey is about enjoyment, teamwork and a space to learn not only the sport but critical life lessons and character development. For our athletes to gain these benefits, their well-being must always be put first.

  • Launch & Purpose

    The U.S. Center for SafeSport is an independent nonprofit organization responsible for responding to and preventing emotional, physical, and sexual misconduct and abuse in the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Movement. The Center also serves as an educational resource for sports organizations at all levels, from recreational sports organizations to professional leagues.

    Established in 2017, the U.S. Center for SafeSport is the independent and exclusive authority directed by Congress to prevent and respond to all forms of abuse and misconduct within the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Movement. The Center is an independent, nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization headquartered in Denver, Colorado.

    The Center receives, investigates, and responds to reports of abuse and misconduct from individuals affiliated with the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC) and its National Governing Bodies (NGBs). The Center ensures that the USOPC and NGBs properly apply policies and procedures to govern abuse prevention and maintains a database of individuals sanctioned from participation in their sport.

    Throughout the Olympic and Paralympic Movement, the Center trains athletes, parents, coaches, volunteers, and organizations at all levels on best practices and principles for preventing abuse in sport settings. In doing so, the Center advances its mission of making athlete well-being the center of our nation’s sports culture through abuse prevention, education, and accountability.

  • SafeSport Code

    This Code of Conduct establishes consistent standards of response and resolution to abuse and misconduct claims behavior across the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Movement. The USOPC, NGBs, and LAOs must comply, in all respects, with these policies and procedures as defined by the Code. All participants of these organizations are responsible for adhering to and understanding the Code.

  • Education & Outreach

    The Center's Education and Outreach Office will administer national prevention programming, raise issue awareness, and provide resources and training to promote respect and prevent abuse.

    • The Center will provide education materials, including talking points, fact sheets, brochures and training materials, and will centralize best practices.
    • The Center will offer sport organizations easy access to educational opportunities for their coaches, staff, volunteers, parents and athletes.

  • Response & Resolution

    The Center's Response and Resolution Office will investigate and resolve alleged policy violations of the SafeSport Code for the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Movement's 47 member National Governing Bodies, including USA Field Hockey.

    • The SafeSport Code identifies prohibited conduct and serves as the benchmark by which the Center determines whether or not a policy violation has occurred.

    • USA Field Hockey's Response and Resolution Policy dictates how the organization will respond to alleged violations that fall under the organization's jurisdiction.

  • Reporting

    The Center accepts all reports of sexual abuse and child abuse within the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Movement. Report here if you have reasonable suspicion of sexual misconduct or harassment, child abuse (including child sexual abuse), or intimate relationships involving an imbalance of power.

    The Center also accepts reports of emotional and physical misconduct (including but not limited to bullying, hazing, stalking, and harassment) within the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Movement. Reports of emotional and physical misconduct can also be reported directly to your sport’s national governing body (NGB).

    Reporting alleged criminal conduct to USA Field Hockey or the Center will not satisfy any individual mandatory reporting requirements under state or federal law. Click here to view state-by-state mandatory reporting laws to determine your reporting obligations and options.

  • Jurisdiction & Authority

    The Center has jurisdiction over Participants.

    These are persons:

    • A member or license holder of USA Field Hockey;
    • An employee or board member of USA Field Hockey;
    • Within the governance or disciplinary jurisdiction of USA Field Hockey;
    • Authorized, approved or appointed by USA Field Hockey to have regular contact with or authority over Minor Athletes.

    The Center has exclusive jurisdiction over investigating and resolving sexual misconduct and discretionary jurisdiction over non-sexual child, emotional, and physical abuse. USA Field Hockey will retain the authority to investigate and resolve alleged SafeSport Code violations that are non-sexual in nature, such as emotional and physical misconduct. At USA Field Hockey's request, the Center may exercise the discretionary authority to take on cases of this nature.
