Silvetti Inducted into Luzerne County Sports Hall of Fame

LUZERNE COUNTY, Pa. - The Luzerne County Sports Hall of Fame will celebrate its 40th anniversary in June with a star-studded class. One of the twelve inductees is field hockey player Sara Silvetti.

The 2024 inductees are Frank Baur, Frederick "Fritz" Bleich, Amanda Faust (field hockey), Sam Hyder, Qadry "Missile" Ismail, Raghib "Rocket" Ismail, Taylor Lillian Dean, Sean Robbins, Esq., Jayson Terdiman, Sara Silvetti (field hockey), Ray Yakavonis and Eddit Zawatski.

The induction is set for Sunday, June 9, 2024 at Mohegan Pennsylvania, Plains Township, with festivities beginning at 3:00 p.m. with a cocktail hour, followed by dinner at 4:00 p.m. and the induction ceremony. Former Crestwood great Sara Silvetti headlines as one of the Olympic athletes.

Silvetti was a three-time all-state selection for the Comets and powered the Big Red Machine to the 1999 state championship. That season she was named the Wyoming Valley Conference's most valuable player. She attended the University of Maryland where she earned All-American honors which led to her selection to the U.S. Women's National Team and being named an alternate for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.

Silvetti was on the USWNT from 2005 to 2010 and competed in more than 100 international caps for Team USA. Outside of being an alternate for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games squad, she competed in the 2006 Women's World Cup in Madrid, Spain and 2009 Pan American Cup in Hamilton, Bermuda, where USA finished second.
