USWNT Finish 10th at 2026 FIH Hockey World Cup
WAVRE, Belgium – The No. 10 U.S. Women’s National Team concluded their 2026 FIH Hockey World Cup run with a 3-1 loss to No. 7 England, finishing 10th overall. The United Eagles showed resilience throughout the tournament, going 2-2-2 across the competition while continuing to compete against some of the world’s top teams.
The opening quarter was action-packed, with both teams creating chances early. Just three minutes in, England fired a quick shot that Kelsey Bing turned away. USA immediately transitioned the other direction, with Abby Tamer and Ashley Sessa combining for opportunities before the United Eagles earned back-to-back penalty corners.
England eventually broke through in the 11th minute, scoring off a rebound from a set piece to take a 1-0 lead.
England threatened early in the second quarter, but Jenny Rizzo made an immediate impact after checking into the game. USA leveled the score in the 20th minute when Ryleigh Heck got a touch on Ashley Hoffman’s penalty corner drag to make it 1-1.
England responded five minutes later with a set-piece goal to regain the lead, as USA trailed 2-1 at halftime.
The tempo slowed in the third quarter as both teams settled into more patient possession. Neither side were able to create a breakthrough, leaving the scoreline unchanged heading into the final frame.
Jenny Rizzo made an early impact in the fourth quarter, rushing out to absorb a low backhand attempt and keep England from extending its lead. England earned back-to-back penalty corners in the 55th minute, with Rizzo’s blocker denying the first attempt before England capitalized on a rebound to make it 3-1. USA pulled Rizzo for an extra field player as the United Eagles looked to mount a comeback.
England earned another set piece in the 58th minute, but Hoffman deflected the attempt over the crossbar. USA ultimately fell to England, 3-1.
