College Games to Watch: DIII Opening Week
No. 4 Christopher Newport vs No. 23 Washington & Lee

Despite the disparity in ranking, this match has been historically close. The past six meetings have been one-goal games, with Christopher Newport winning 1-0 the last two seasons. The Captains are coming off an impressive 19-1 season, falling only to eventual champion Tufts in the NCAA Semifinal. Washington & Lee ended their 14-5 2025 campaign with an overtime loss to Shenandoah in the ODAC Tournament.
No. 18 Lynchburg vs No. 2 Johns Hopkins

Johns Hopkins was also thwarted by Tufts last fall, suffering just their second loss of the season in the NCAA Championship match. Lynchburg fell in overtime to Christopher Newport (the team that gave Johns Hopkins their only other loss) in the NCAA Second Round. These two teams have not faced off since 2022, when Lynchburg won 2-0.
York vs No. 12 Stevens

Repeating last season's Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) crossover opening match, Stevens will host York. Last August, the Stevens Ducks picked up their highest-ranked win in program history when they defeated the then-No. 10 York Spartans, 2-1. This year, York will be the underdog, looking to defeat the Ducks on their home turf.
Swarthmore vs No. 5 Salisbury

Swarthmore will kick off the season with a challenge, facing No. 5 Salisbury, a team that ended 2025 with a 19-3 record in the NCAA Quarterfinals. This duo faced off in 2024, with Salisbury taking a 6-1 victory.
No. 9 Dickinson vs No. 22 Messiah

A team that turned things around after the hire of head coach Maggie Sohns, Dickinson rounded out a historic 2025 season, 19-4, and with a run in the NCAA Tournament. As an indicator for what was to come, the Red Devils defeated Messiah, a traditionally strong program, in shootouts to open their campaign last fall.
No. 3 Babson vs No. 10 Endicott

Another couple of teams that are opening together after a productive 2025 season are Babson and Endicott. The Babson Beavers finished 22-2 in the NCAA Semifinals while the Endicott Gulls were 21-2 after an NCAA Second Round loss. In their opening meeting last fall, the Beavers took a 4-3 victory, giving them a 14-4 advantage in the long-standing series.
No. 14 Rowan vs Ursinus

New Jersey and Pennsylvania neighbors Rowan and Ursinus will run back their yearly opening match together. In their past ten season openers, Rowan holds a 6-4 advantage, as well as a win in the NCAA First Round in 2024.
