USMNT Earns Series Split Despite Final Match Defeat to Canada

SURREY, Canada - Playing in rainy conditions, the No. 26 U.S. Men's National Team fell 3-0 to No. 19 Canada in the final match of the series. Despite the result, the teams finished the series level overall after each side claimed a win after drawing the first contest.

The opening quarter started tightly contested before Canada found sustained attack by earning eight consecutive penalty corners in a row. USA’s defense and goalkeeper Shomik Chakraborty stood strong to deny each opportunity. The hosts broke through on a penalty corner with just over a minute remaining in the frame to take a 1-0 lead. With seconds ticking down, the Wolves had a good chance but couldn’t find the equalizer before the break.

USA opened the second quarter with a string of circle entries but were unable to convert their attacking pressure. Canada extended their lead in the 26th minute, converting another penalty corner. The hosts earned their 15th set piece with one minute remaining before halftime, but the Wolves' defense held firm to keep the score at 2-0 heading into the break.

USA generated several positive attacking possessions throughout the third quarter but were unable to break through. A strong run down the right side by Marius Leser created a promising chance, though Wyatt Katz was unable to get a shot away. USA's persistence earned two penalty corners in the 42nd minute, but both were turned away. With 30 seconds remaining in the quarter, an aerial ball found Noah Mendoza, whose pass went across the face of goal without a finishing touch, as Canada maintained its 2-0 advantage.

USA came out with renewed energy in the fourth quarter and controlled much of the possession. Despite the Wolves’ positive start, Canada created back-to-back 2-on-1 opportunities in the 51st minute. Chakraborty made an excellent save on the first chance, but the hosts converted the second to extend their lead to 3-0. USA pushed at the end but the scoreline stood.
