  • What does it mean to you to still be lacing up — and to wear the USA jersey — at the Masters level?

Just dusting off the cobwebs, older body so more detail to injury prevention, but great to be back on the field with the guys.

  • How and when did field hockey first become your game?

I was playing soccer at a rec center in Cuba when I was 10 years old, and they were doing tryouts for field hockey at a local sports academy. The coach came up to me and asked if I wanted to do the tryouts. To my surprise, I made the team and started sports school soon after, focusing on hockey.

  • What's the field hockey moment you'll never forget?

Traveling and playing in Chile and Argentina with the U.S. Men’s National Team in 2018.

  • What does it mean to you to still be lacing up — and to wear the USA jersey — at the Masters level?

It’s an honor to represent the U.S. abroad playing the sport I’m so passionate about in front of my wife and kids and with some of my closest friends.

  • What would you tell someone who's on the fence about giving Masters a try?

There’s really nothing to lose, it’s a great opportunity to continue playing hockey at the competitive level as you mature in life and have fun traveling the world.

  • If you had a moment to thank the people and places that keep you on the field, who would you name?

I would thank my very good friend and Masters player Manuel Morales (O-60) who has encouraged me on and off the field to be a better player.

I would also have to thank my wife, Allison Isla (nee Metzger), and my children for allowing me the time to keep pursuing hockey. Thanks to her, our team was also able to secure a Silver Level Sponsorship for the O-35M team from her employer MarketWise. This sponsorship also led to an even bigger opportunity, with Marketwise becoming a USA Field Hockey premier partner for the next few years. My team and I are very grateful for the donation to our team and for the ongoing support for the organization and sport.
