O-35M: USA 1 - 1 (4 - 5 SO) Wales (QF)
It was a heartbreaking finish against Wales for the USA Men's O-35 team. After going undefeated in pool play, the red, white and blue found themselves in a contentious quarterfinal. Several chances, including penalty corners, went fruitless for USA, and the match arrived to the final quarter with no goals for either side. It was Wales who broke through with a goal in the 50th minute, but USA powered back with penalty corner goal two minutes later from Robbert Schenk. This forced the game into shootouts, where Wales was victorious in sudden victory. Next for USA will be the 5th/6th place match against Germany on August 1.
O-35W: New Zealand 3 - 1 USA (QF)
After finishing seventh in pool play, the Women's O-35 squad drew New Zealand in the quarterfinals of the World Cup. The match began with both teams trading possession and trying to create opportunities. New Zealand struck first with a goal off a penalty corner, and USA countered quickly with a goal from Kristie Blumer off a beautiful cross from Maria Baldi, knotting the score 1-1 at the half. Due to the extreme temperatures, there was a hydration break each quarter to prevent heat exhaustion.
In the second half, New Zealand added more pressure and were able to score two more goals, the final one coming off a well executed penalty corner. Throughout the match, there was excellent play from both goalkeepers, Melissa Katz and Emma Beck, as well as midfielders Courtney Veinotte (MVP), Michelle Kasold, Livv Lopes, and Katie Braun. That same energy was seen from forwards Amy Krompinger, Mel McCarthy, and Kim Romansky. The Women's O-35's final game will take place Friday, July 31, against Scotland, who lost to England in their quarterfinal.
O-45M: England 5 - 1 USA (QF)
A powerful first half propelled England to victory over the USA Men's O-45 team in the quarterfinals. The England side scored three times in the opening quarter and one in the second, putting USA down 4-0 at halftime. A goal from each side in the second half, USA's from DC Juneja, made the final score 5-1 in favor of England. USA will play for 7th place against Spain on August 1.
O-40W: Uruguay 4 -1 USA (QF)
A quarterfinal loss against Uruguay erased semifinal dreams for the USA Women's O-40 team. Rebecca Beatty scored the lone goal in USA's 4-1 loss. The final match for USA will be against Spain on August 1 in the 7th/8th placement game.
O-50M: USA 3 - 0 Malaysia
