2026 Hall of Fame Inductee: Alva Francis Serrette
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Over the next few weeks, USA Field Hockey will be celebrating and honoring the 2026 Hall of Fame inductees prior to the Gala, hosted by the USA Field Hockey Foundation.
From athlete to administrator, official to organizer, for more than four decades Alva Francis Serrette has helped shape the trajectory of field hockey in the United States through his ongoing leadership, service, and an unwavering commitment. His contributions have strengthened the foundation of the sport and elevated its presence on the global stage.
A U.S. Men’s National Team athlete from 1979 to 1982, Serrette’s journey began on the pitch, representing the United States at the 1979 Pan American Games in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Known for his scoring ability and competitive edge, he continued to make his mark well beyond his national team career by competing within the U.S. Masters program. Even into his 60s, he remained a force by competing in four World Masters Hockey (MWH) World Cups (2018, 2022, 2024, 2026), a WMH Indoor World Cup (2026), and a European Championship (2019), where he was the leading goal scorer.
From the Olympic stage to grassroots governance, Serrette has served the sport in nearly every capacity imaginable. He was the Competition Manager for Hockey at the Atlanta 1996 Olympic Games, where he played a critical role in delivering one of the sport’s premier global events. His leadership extended to the USMNT as manager from 2001 to 2003, and as Director of High Performance for USA Field Hockey from 2001 to 2004, where he helped guide the strategic direction of the elite programming.
Serrette’s expertise has also been sought in officiating and selection. He was an umpire at the 1985 U.S Olympic Festival, selector for the USMNT in 1986, and served as a judge at the 1989 Men’s Intercontinental Cup, an Olympic qualifier, where he was appointed to judge the final.
At the governance level, Serrette has been a consistent and influential stance within many sport organizations. He has a long-standing tenure on the Board of Directors for both the Field Hockey Association of America (1980-1992) and USA Field Hockey (1997-2000). He was involved with the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee where he served on multiple committees including Audit, Board of Directors, Olympic Festivals, Membership and Credentials, and Athletes’ Advisory Council spanning from 1985 to 1996. He was also a liaison for the 1987 Pan American Games in Indianapolis, Ind., 1991 Pan American Games in Havana, Cuba, and Barcelona 1992 Olympic Games.
In recent years, Serrette has continued to give back through World Masters Hockey, serving on the Events Committee since 2019 and as Chair of the Event Organizing Group for the 2024 World Cup in Cape Town, South Africa and upcoming 2026 World Cup in Breda, Netherlands.
Serrette is a founding member and still an active part of the New York Islanders Field Hockey club, in which he helped start in 1977. Since he resides in Georgia, he is a current club member of the Georgia Field Hockey Association, and he served as Chair of the Atlanta Cup tournament from 2002 to 2019.
In recognition of his extraordinary service and lasting influence, Serrette is honored as a contributor in the 2026 USA Field Hockey Hall of Fame.
