by USA Field Hockey

VIENNA, Austria – Behind a strong scoring performance, the U.S. Men's National Indoor Team topped Indonesia, 10-3, to advance to the 2023 Rohrmax Cup final in Vienna, Austria.

USA opened the scoring 3 minutes into the match when a reverse dump by Kei Kaeppeler (Stuttgart, Germany) to Pat Harris (Moorpark, Calif.) on the wing was tipped in by Marius Leser (Mannheim, Germany). Three minutes later, Indonesia evened the score when a long ball into the circle was deflected in. USA kept on the front foot and two minutes following, USA earned a penalty stroke off a penalty corner attempt, that Aki Kaeppeler (New York, N.Y.) converted to make it 2-1.

In the second frame, the red, white and blue had a three goal quarter to extend the lead to 5-1. The first came 1:20 in when Harris scored off a slip pass at the top off a penalty corner to extend the lead. Next, Stuart Kentwell (Spring City, Pa.) tucked away a baseline shot and to round out the scoring Jack Heldens (Hamburg, Germany) put it in at close range. USA successfully defensed two Indonesia penalty corner attempts.

USA continued to be dominate in scoring, and 2 minutes into the third frame, A. Kaeppeler added his name to the scoresheet. To make it 7-1, Harris scored his second of the game off a straight shot off a penalty corner. In the 25th minute, Indonesia cut the margin when quick passing led to a tip in goal off the post. With a few minutes remaining in the frame, USA pulled their goalkeeper to again, practice the scenario. Indonesia capitalized on the opportunity with 55 seconds left to make it 7-3.

The fourth quarter, USA tallied another three goals to win the match 10-3. Just 55 seconds in, S. Kentwell put in his second of the game off a rebound from the goalkeeper. Harris notched a hat-trick in the 37th minute and added his fourth of the game two minutes later.
