The Level 2 Instructional Coaching Clinic will cover the following topics: 


Classroom Presentations and Discussions

  • Developing Your Coaching Philosophy 
  • Teaching Games for Understanding & Guided Discovery/Learning Principles
  • 11 v 11 Concepts/Formations
  • Effective Session Planning
  • Collaborating with Others to Provide Solutions to Strategic Challenges
  • Participate in On-Field Group Presentations Covering Important Coaching Topics

 

On-Field Learning and Application 

  • Participate in Group Presentations Covering Important Coaching Topics   
  • Apply “Teaching Games for Understanding” Principles that include Exercise Progressions  
  • Skill Acquisition - Error Detection and Correction  
  • Design Fun and Effective Training Sessions - Small Games   

Instructor for this Level 2 Instructional Coaching Clinic:

Pat Cota | Stanford University Assistant Coach | Level 2 Coach Educator

A member of the U.S. Men’s National Team (1999-2012), Cota was also a part of the U.S. Men’s National Indoor Team that participated at the International Hockey Federation (FIH) Indoor World Cup in February 2011. Two months earlier in a match against Argentina, he celebrated his 100th international cap. At the time, he was currently the only member of the U.S. Men’s National Team to have achieved 100 career caps.

Cota has also competed on the U.S. U-18 and U-21 Men’ National Teams beginning in 1996. He continued to played overseas for Rot-Weiss Koln in Germany from 2002-03 and for Club UTS in Australia in 2001.

Patrick Cota begins his ninth season as an assistant coach with the Stanford field hockey program.
