Beyond the First Save: Owning the Second & Third Phase
With Maddie Hinch
Hinch will focus on eliminating hesitation in the 5-yard area, reinforcing that the job isn’t often done after the first save and it’s how goalkeepers manage the second and third phases of play. The emphasis will be on composure, smart decision making and efficient movement. Hinch will break down some of the key skills in this area. The session will also include game-like exercises that she uses with the U.S. National Team goalkeepers.
Breaking Lines: Ball Carrying to 2v1 Dominance
With Bert Remmerswaal
Remmerswaal's session will show how he develops some of the key skills he has been working on with the National Team. He will look at ball carrying skills and how these then relate to creating effective 2v1 situations. The session will also look at repeatable elimination skills that stand up to the pressure of competition.
Stronger, Faster, Safer: Optimizing Performance in Field Hockey Athletes
With Abbie Trivisonno and Connor Powers
The duo with cover topics such as Resistance Training, Energy System Development and Injury Risk Mitigation in field hockey athletes. They will discuss the most common injuries seen in field hockey athletes and how strength and conditioning can be effectively used to reduce the risk of injury. They will also discuss how the collegiate level and international level of performance differs and what steps coaches can take to help their athletes during transitional periods.
Designing Decision Makers for Olympic Performance
With Craig Parnham
In this session, Parnham will discuss some of the challenges coaches face between the practice environment and the international game requirements. He will consider how as coaches we think about athlete learning and how to amplify decision making in practice to ensure we are enabling transferable skills to the game.
