SYRACUSE, N.Y. - This past Saturday, 19 teams gathered at J.S. Coyne Stadium on the campus of Syracuse University for the inaugural New York Hockey5s Tournament. The day was filled with high-energy, camaraderie, and a sense of community.
The event, with support from the New York State Chapter and thorough execution of Nicky Huston, welcomed athletes from U-10 to U-19 age divisions, representing some of the top programs in the area including Accelerate Field Hockey, CNY, Country Strong, Elite H, SYR, and Upstate United.
Hosting this New York Hockey5s Tournament marked a significant step forward in growing the game in the state. The atmosphere throughout the day was upbeat and encouraging, with athletes having fun, reconnecting with old friends, and making new ones - exactly the type of experience the leaders aimed to create.
A massive thank you goes to the Syracuse University staff and team, who not only officiated the games but also assisted with setup and takedown. Their support was essential in making the day run smoothly and helping build the foundation for more events to come. Special appreciation goes to Anna and Lynn, whose dedication and teamwork in the months leading up to the event were crucial in bringing the vision to life.
Despite a heat wave that transformed Hockey5s into a steamy version of Hockey6s, the event was a resounding success with positive feedback pouring in from teams, coaches, and families.
