USA Field Hockey to Host Webinar Series on Commentating the Game
USA Field Hockey is pleased to share an upcoming webinar series focused on commentating the game. To provide those interested in getting into commentating as well as educate those already behind the microphone, USA Field Hockey has teamed up with Simon Mason, world-renowned voice of the International Hockey Federation (FIH) and EuroHockey Federation.
The first portion of the webinar series, titled ‘Talking a Good Game – The First Half’, will take place on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. ET. The agenda for this FREE webinar will include Simon presenting topics including - the purpose of commentary, on-site vs. in-studio, common language used, relying on and supporting your counterpart, incorporating statistics, stories and play-by-play, and using your voice. There will also be a dedicated time for questions and answers. Questions can be emailed prior to the webinar to communications@usafieldhockey.com.
The second portion of the webinar series, ‘Talking a Good Game – The Second Half’ will be a paid-for educational course open to USA Field Hockey Members and Non-Members. Here, Simon will dive in and deliver more best practices, elaborate on common themes from “The First Half’”, and show game clips. More information coming soon.
Simon has been a global field hockey commentator since 2010, working for and covering tournaments for the likes of the FIH, BCC Sport (England), EuroHockey Federation, TNT (England) and England Hockey. He has commentated at every level of the game, from domestic competitions to Olympic Games finals, across the past 15 years. Most notably he has been the one of the voices of the Rio 2016, Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024 Olympic Games, and 2010 and 2014 World Cups. He has covered more than 300 FIH Hockey Pro League matches, including the finals for both the FIH and TNT. He has experience of both on-site and in-studio delivery.
