Make the Save Presenter: Steve Thompson

by USA Field Hockey

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The inaugural Make the Save Multi-Sport Goalkeeping Coaches Forum, hosted by USA Field Hockey, will be held live on Zoom on Thursday, May 20 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. ET. Hosts Phil Edwards, USA Field Hockey's Senior Manager of Coaching and Performance, and Craig Parnham, USA Field Hockey's Director of Coach Education and Learning, will be joined by coaches and specialists from a range of different sports who will share their perspectives on supporting the development of goalkeepers of all levels.

Today, USA Field Hockey is excited to introduce the first Make the Save presenter who will be sharing insights from the ice, Steve Thompson.

Steve Thompson is USA Hockey's American Development Model (ADM) Manager of Goaltending. His responsibilities in that role include player development, coaching education and management of goaltending staff. Prior to overseeing the program, Steve served as the goaltending coach for national teams, NCAA programs and started Alaska Goaltending Academy for youth hockey development.

Steve will be presenting on The Goalie Coach Catch-22. His presentation will explore the dilemma of over coaching that has plagued goaltending in recent years. What started as a position with no coaching has slowly evolved into one with many passionate coaches trying to fill the void from their own playing days. His presentation will discuss how to help guide your athletes without removing the decision making and critical thinking that is required of world-class goaltenders.

A detailed schedule and presenter information for the Make the Forum will be released at a later date. For more information, check out the Make the Save: Multi-Sport Goalkeeping Coaches Forum event page.
