GREENWOOD, S.C. - Lander University Director of Athletics Brian Reese has announced the addition of field hockey as the university's 21st NCAA varsity sport.

"I am excited about the addition of field hockey to the Lander Athletic Department," said Reese. "This is a growing sport in the region, with several schools in the state already having added field hockey in the last several years."

The Bearcats will be the fifth Division II school in the state to offer field hockey, joining Coker University, Converse University, Limestone University and Newberry College. Lander will also be the 38th Division II field hockey team and the 283 NCAA program overall.

A national search will be conducted to find a head coach to start immediately. The program will have its inaugural season in the fall of 2022.
