Weekend College Games: October 28 - 31

DI: Merrimack vs. Wagner | 3:00 p.m. ET | NEC Front Row

Merrimack (1-15, 1-5 NEC) finishes out the regular season against Wagner (7-9, 4-2 NEC) in a Northeast Conference (NEC) game at 3:00 p.m. ET in Staten Island, N.Y. 

Merrimack is coming off a 5-0 loss against Fairfield last Sunday. The game winner came just 3 minutes into the game off a successfully converted penalty stroke from Malen Iglesias. Merrimack managed to register three shots and earn one penalty corner throughout the game. Warrior goalkeeper Riley Brown tallied nine saves through 60 minutes in the cage. 

Wagner captured a 2-1 win against NEC opponent Sacred Heart on Sunday. They got on the board first in the final minutes of the first quarter when Liselotte Koop found the back of the net for the first time this season off an assist from Agustina DeHarbe. Sacred Heart battled back evening the score in the second quarter. The game winner was scored in the 56th minute ensuring Wagner’s seventh victory of the season. Wagner led SHU in shots 18 to 16 and in penalty corners 10 to 6.

Wagner walked away with a 2-1 win the last time these programs met back on March 25, 2021. The all-time record sits at 2-0 in favor of Wagner. 

DII: Molloy vs. No. 8 Adelphi | 5:00 p.m. ET | NE10 NOW

In the only game in Division II on Thursday, Molloy (0-13, 0-11 NE10) faces No. 8 Adelphi (11-5, 9-3 NE10) at 5:00 p.m. ET at Motamed Field. 

Molloy is still searching for their first win of the season after last dropping a 4-0 decision against No. 10 Bentley on Sunday. Bentley got the scoring started early, netting the game winner just under five minutes into the match. Despite the four early goals, Molloy’s defense was able to hold Bentley to a scoreless fourth quarter. The Lions finished with one shot on goal and one penalty corner opportunity. Goalkeeper Ally Saigh registered 14 saves in the match. 

Adelphi is coming off a close 2-3loss to Pace on Wednesday evening. Scoreless heading into the second half, the Panthers broke the scoring open in the 35th minute off a goal from Giana McKeough. Less than a minute later Kelsey Catalano added a tally putting them up 2-0. In the 37th minute, Pace’s Cienna Bosher netted a penalty stroke and before the end of the third quarter, Pace scored the equalizer. Pace notched the game winner in the 50th minute as Adelphi was unable to convert on the seven penalty corners and fourth shots they took in the fourth.

Adelphi beat Molloy 4-2 in their last matchup on October 5, 2019. The programs have only met two times with Adelphi winning both games putting the all-time record versus Molloy at 2-0.

DI: No. 8 Liberty vs. No. 16 Old Dominion | 3:00 p.m. ET | ESPN+

No. 8 Liberty (14-2, 6-0 Big East) hosts No. 16 Old Dominion (13-3, 5-1 Big East) in their final regular season game at 3:00 p.m. ET in Lynchburg, Va. 

Liberty enters this game after defeating then ranked No. 22 Kent State 2-1 at home last Sunday. The Fames got on the board first with a goal from Martu Cian in the opening quarter. They went 2-0 up after an unassisted goal from Daniella Rhodes in the fourth quarter. Kent State responded in the 58th minute but ran out of time to find an equalizer. Liberty finished the game with 30 shots and 11 penalty corners. 

Old Dominion registered a 2-1 win against William and Mary on Sunday, extending their win streak to four games in a row. ODU battled back after being down 1-0 throughout the first half of play. The Monarchs found the back of the net in the 37th and 41st minute to ultimately secure the victory. They finished the game with 10 shots and three penalty corners. 

Old Dominion and Liberty last met on April 22, 2021 and saw ODU take home a 2-1. The all-time record is a close 7-6 in favor of Liberty with the first meeting taking place back in 2014. 

DII: New Haven vs. No. 6 Saint Anselm  | 2:00 p.m. ET | NE10 NOW

New Haven (9-8, 9-4 NE10) travels to Manchester, N.H. to play No. 6 Saint Anselm (13-4, 10-3 NE10) at 2:00 p.m. in the final game of Northeast-10 (NE10) regular season play. Freshman Abby Nixon had a hand in all four goals, recording a pair of assists in the opening half and scoring two of her own in the second half. The Chargers finishes with 13 shots to Mercy’s four, and tallied eight penalty corner changes to their opponent’s three.

Saint Anselm’s six game win streak came to an end after their 1-0 overtime loss to No. 3 Assumption on Tuesday night. After going scoreless through regulation, Assumption's Mia Salah netted the game winner three minutes into the overtime period. The two teams were tied at nine shots each with Assumption leading Saint Anselm seven to three in penalty corners. Hawk goalkeeper Mackenzie McConell saved four of the five shots on goal she saw.

The last matchup took place earlier this season on September 5 and saw Saint Anselm take home a 4-1 win. Saint Anselm leads in all-time meetings 4-0 with the first matchup occurring in the 2017 regular season.

DI: Longwood vs. Ohio | 1:00 p.m. ET | YouTube

Longwood (9-5, 4-2 MAC) travels to face Ohio (6-11, 3-3 MAC) for a 1:00 p.m. ET game in Athens, Ohio for the final regular season Mid-American Conference (MAC) match for both programs. 

Longwood last played on Friday where they beat Ball State 5-1. Ana Paula Lazaro led the way for the Lancers tallying two goals on the day. Also getting on the scoresheet was Cammy Toddy, Rio Weber and Sophia Loscher, who netted the game winner with 20 seconds to go before the half. Longwood ended the game with 25 shots and earned 12 penalty corners. 

Ohio finished their competition last weekend with a 3-0 loss at Indiana. After a scoreless first half, Yip van Wonderen scored Indiana’s game winner in the 37th minute of play. Hailey Couch scored the remaining two goals with one coming 42 seconds later putting the Hoosiers up 2-0. Ohio ended the game with nine shots and five penalty corner opportunities.

The last time Ohio and Longwood met was back on April 12, 2021. Ohio won that game 3-1 evening the all-time record to 4-4. 

DII: Mansfield vs. No. 2 West Chester | 1:00 p.m. ET | PSAC Digital Network

PSAC) takes on No. 2 West Chester (12-3, 6-2 PSAC) at 1:00 p.m. ET in West Chester, Pa. 

Mansfield are coming off a 3-0 win over Bloomsburg on Wednesday. After a scoreless first period, Kalin Duke got the Mounties on the board when she connected on a one-time shot in the 22nd minute. Saramae Radel doubled the lead off a penalty stroke in the 41st minute. Just over a minute later Hannah Meyer found the back of the cage to cap off the scoring. The Mountaineers are in a three-way tie for the sixth and final spot in the PSAC postseason berth.

West Chester defeated Kutztown 3-2 in double-overtime on Wednesday evening. The Golden Rams had to come from behind twice, doing so each time on a penalty stroke conversion by Emma Velez. She scored on a stroke in the 38th minute and again in the 58th to send the contest into extra time. Valerie Van Kuijck scored in the second overtime period for the win.

The two teams met earlier in the season on September 18. West Chester took home a 2-0 win extending the Golden Rams’ win streak to eleven games and the all-time record at 11-0.    

DIII: Ferrum vs. Eastern Mennonite | 2:00 p.m. ET | ODAC Sports Network

Both Ferrum (3-14, 0-7 ODAC) and Eastern Mennonite (7-10, 0-7 ODAC) go head-to-head searching for their first Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) at 2:00 p.m. ET on Saturday.

Ferrum is coming off an 8-0 loss at Roanoke on Wednesday. The Maroons scored just 19 seconds into the game and Roanoke never looked back adding two more in the first quarter, four in the third frame and one more in the last.

Eastern Mennonite, similar to Ferrum, enters this match after a 9-0 loss at Washington Lee. The Royals defense was under pressure from the start with Washington Lee tallying their game winning goal in the 6th minute of play. Eastern Mennonite finished the game with seven shots and six penalty corners. 

Sunday, October 31, 2021

DI: Temple vs. Penn | 12:00 p.m. ET | ESPN+

Temple (7-9, 3-3 Big East) will face Philadelphia opponent Penn (6-7, 3-2 Ivy League) at 12:00 p.m.  ET Sunday at Ellen Vagelos Field. 

Temple enters the game after dropping a close 1-0 decision to Lafayette on Sunday. Molly McAndrew scored the difference maker in the 18th minute of play. Temple took nine shots and had three penalty corners throughout the match. The Owls are looking for their first win since beating Providence 1-0 back on October 8 and will face Connecticut on Friday prior to this match.

Penn will also be looking to get back in the win column after a 1-0 loss against No. 23 Delaware. After holding Delaware to a scoreless first half, Julia Duffhuis scored the game winner on a penalty corner midway through the third quarter. Penn finished the game with three shots with one getting on target and earned two penalty corners. 

Penn captured a 2-1 victory in the last matchup back on September 29, 2019. Penn leads the all-time record 7-4 with the first game taking place back in October 2014. 

DII: Frostburg  vs. Coker | 12:00 p.m. ET | Coker Cobras

Frostburg (1-15) travels to Hartsville, S.C. to take on Coker (4-9, 3-8 SAC) at 12:00 p.m. ET in both teams' final regular season game.

Frostburg is looking for their first win since September 28 after most recently dropping an 11-0 decision to No. 1 Shippensburg. The Raiders registered an impressive 50 shots with Maggie Haupt recording an equally impressive 21 saves through her 60 minutes in the cage. Frostburg managed to record one shot and earn one penalty corner. Frostburg will face Queens in Charlotte, N.C. before their matchup with Coker. 

Coker will be looking to extend their two-game win streak after getting a 6-5 win over Lindenwood last Friday. The scoring went back and forth with Lindenwood scoring first. Coker went on to score three with Lindenwood responding with three of their own to put the score at 4-3 in the 45th minute of play. The game winner was netted with five minutes remaining in regulation off an unassisted goal from Lieke Bruijn.

DIII: Concordia vs. Rhoes | 11:00 a.m. ET | Lynx Live Network

Concordia (7-8, 2-1 SAA) will play Rhodes (5-6, 2-1 SAA) in back-to-back matches on Saturday and Sunday in Memphis on Mason Field.

Concordia looks to bounce back after a 5-0 loss to Susquehanna ending their three-game win streak. The game winner came in the 10th minute after Annalee Smith registered her fourth of the season on an unassisted effort. Falcon goalkeeper Emily Binley made 14 saves on 19 shots throughout the 60 minutes. 

Rhodes dropped a close 3-2 double-overtime game to Centre on October 16. Despite Centre getting on the board just 25 seconds into the game, the Lynx scored the equalizer in the 27th minute. With the score sitting at 1-1 after the half, Centre struck first with Rhodes responding in the 54th minute to force overtime. Rhodes finished the match with 11 shots and earned eight penalty corners.
