VIENNA, Austria - The U.S. U-21 Men's National Team closed out a three game series against Austria's U-21 team on Sunday. Although they didn't come away with a victory, they faced a quality opponent in the hosts and used the series to learn and adjust game-by-game.

Game 1: USA 2 - 3 AUT

The U.S. U-21 Men’s National Team lost a close 3-2 match against Austria’s U-21 team at the HC Wien Stadion in Vienna.

USA struck first with a skillful goal by Marius Leser (Manheimm, Germany) but the lead was short-lived as Austria responded within two minutes to equalize. Both teams saw even possession and opportunities throughout the second quarter but the score line remained 1-1 at the half.

USA organized after the break and was able to capitalize on a chance well into the third quarter. In a scrappy affair in front of goal, Jasper Pouw (Santa Rosa Valley, Calif.) broke the deadlock by batting the ball mid-air into the goal. Austria again found the equalizer quickly from a successful penalty corner conversion.

Amar Singh (Santa Clara, Calif.) defended a flurry of penalty corners in the fourth quarter to keep the score level while USA looked to pull ahead after earning a penalty corner. USA was unable to find a result and in the final frantic moments of play, Austria was able to score the crucial third goal bringing it to 3-2 at the final whistle.
