What You Need to Know:
The third edition of the FIH Hockey Pro League welcome a team that has impressed hugely over the past four years. Spain’s women - who take to the FIH Hockey Pro League stage alongside India for one season only in place of New Zealand and Australia – won bronze at the 2018 FIH Women’s World Cup in London and narrowly missed out on a place in the last four at the recent Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. At the 2018 World Cup, they were defeated in a quarterfinal shootout against eventual bronze medalists Great Britain. Spain, Olympic gold medalists at Barcelona 1992, are coached by Englishman Adrian Lock and have proven capable of competing against the very best, something they will be determined to prove over the coming season.
One to watch: Berta Bonastre. A World Cup and European bronze medalist, striker Bonastre is a key component of Lock’s wonderful Red Sticks team, a player capable of creating and scoring goals when the odds seem very much against her.
