FIH Hockey Pro League Scouting Report: USWNT vs. Australia

In anticipation of the U.S. Women's National Team's upcoming FIH Hockey Pro League matches, here is a scouting report you’ll want to review before the starting whistle.

The last time No. 16 USWNT played No. 3 Australia was in the first season of the FIH Hockey Pro League in May 2019. The USWNT came out strong during the second half after trailing by one goal, but Australia proved dominant as they notched three goals to put a USA comeback out of reach, 4-0.

What You Need to Know:

The COVID-19 pandemic had a significant impact on the ability of teams from Oceania to participate in international hockey matches and competitions, including the 2021-22 FIH Hockey Pro League. Australia returned to the elite stage with a superb bronze meal at the FIH Women's Hockey World Cup Spain & Netherlands 2022, defeating Germany, 2-1, in the match for third place with Steph Kershaw netting twice in the final quarter after trailing most of the contest. It was an outstanding results for the Hockeyroos with three of the group earning FIH Hockey Star Awards nominations on the back of it. Head coach and legendary Hockeyroo Katrina Powell was nominated as the Coach of the Year Award, with Jocelyn Bartram and Amy Lawton being shortlisted for the Best Goalkeeper and Rising Star prizes, respectively.
