Men’s Roster Named for Inaugural PAHF Hockey5s Pan American Cups

by USA Field Hockey

KINGSTON, Jamaica – With just over one month to go until the start of the 2023 Hockey5s Pan American Cups (PAC), to be held at the Mona Hockey Field in Kingston, Jamaica, U.S. Men’s National Team Head Coach Harry Singh has named the 10-athlete roster.

“As the first step on our Hockey5’s adventure, it was pleasing to see all players willing to try and adapt their approaches to this new and exciting format of world hockey introduced by FIH,” commented Head Coach Harry Singh. “This game will provide players flexibility which is going to be critical in the determination of our success for the upcoming PAHF World Cup qualifiers in Jamaica this June.”

“All of the athletes picked up the new format as per players' ability and adaptation of the new format, making selections incredibly hard. I am excited by the team list we have named.”

The athletes selected to participate in this 2024 Hockey5s World Cup qualifier were selected following a camp held at the Chula Vista Elite Athlete Training Center in March.

Michael Barminski (Ventura, Calif.), Tristan Clemons (Hattiesburg, Miss.), Tom Curtis (London, England), Gerald Cutone (Middleton, Mass.), Ajai Dhadwal (Agoura Hills, Calif.), Henzor Motta (San Juan, Puerto Rico), Dean Schiller (Alexandria, Va.), Jatin Sharma (South San Francisco, Calif.), Amarpreet Sidhu (San Jose, Calif.), Tyler Sundeen (Simi Valley, Calif.)

Nine of those named to the roster are current members of the USMNT. Being the first Hockey5s PAC event, this marks a milestone for this selected squad.

USMNT Head Coach Harry Singh will lead the team, with Will Holt as the assistant coach. The staff also includes Kathy Schiller as the team manager, Jarret Welsh as physiologist, and Caitlin van Sickle as videographer.

The Hockey5s PAC is a continental qualifier, organized by the Pan American Hockey Federation (PAHF), for the inaugural FIH Hockey5s World Cup, which is slated for January 2023 in Muscat, Oman. The top three men's and women's teams at this qualifier will be eligible for the FIH Hockey5s World Cup. So far, Belgium, Poland and The Netherlands have qualified at the EuroHockey5s Championship, while Egypt, Kenya and Nigeria qualified at the Africa Hockey5s World Cup Qualifier. As host, Oman will also have a spot. After the Hockey5s PAC, the Oceania and Asia qualifying events will determine the remaining participating teams.
