Junior USMNT Cap Off JPAG Pool Play with Win Over Brazil
ASUNCIÓN, Paraguay – The No. 25 Junior U.S. Men’s National Team rounded out pool play at the 2025 Junior Pan American Games (JPAG) with a match against No. 31 Brazil. Mimicking their previous meeting in 2024, Mehtab Grewal scored the gamewinner in a 3-2 victory for USA.
The Junior Wolves struck early, at just two minutes in. A pass up the field from George Schooley found Bennet Nobereit, who sent the ball to the stick of Matti Bertelsmeier, who finished in cage.
Not long after, USA’s first penalty corner chance found success off the stick of captain Mehtab Grewal, putting the Junior Wolves up 2-0 in the 7th minute.
Brazil found penalty corner response of their own, converting on their first of the match to cut USA’s lead to 2-1 before the quarter break. There was not much action in the circles to start the second frame, until USA earned a third penalty corner in the 22nd minute, followed by a Brazil set piece – both without success. At the 27-minute mark, Brazil tied the match at 2-2 with a second penalty corner goal.
USA regained the lead early in the second half when Noah Mendoza sent an aerial up into the circle to Mehtab Grewal, who scored with an upright backhand shot.
The Junior Wolves retained their 3-2 lead heading into the final quarter. Early in the fourth, Brazil and USA won back-to-back set piece chances, both of which were defended. USA held on to their lead to finish out the match with a 3-2 victory.
