The Junior Pan American Games are a multi-sport event held every four years among youth athletes from all over the American continent. The Games have been organized by PanAm Sports. This event, inspired by the Youth Olympic Games, is exclusively for athletes under 21 years of age, with fewer infrastructure requirements and costs than the Pan American Games.
The Pan American Games started in 1951 and spawned the Junior Pan American Games, aimed at promoting young athletes. The first edition was held in 2021 in Cali, Colombia, marking an important milestone for the sport in the continent.
In the first edition of the games a total of 28 sports were contested, encompassing a total of 40 disciplines. After originally being included basketball (5x5), BMX freestyle and field hockey were not included on the final list. Other Olympic events and disciplines not contested yet includes open water swimming, water polo, canoe slalom, equestrian, football, golf and rugby sevens.
The second edition, in 2025, will feature the participation of more than 4,000 athletes in 42 disciplines, this event not only offers a platform for young athletes but also the opportunity to qualify for the 2027 Pan American Games.
