VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Under humid summer conditions, six women’s teams gathered at the Virginia Beach Sportsplex in Virginia Beach, Va. this past weekend for the Mid-Atlantic Adult Regional Club Championship (RCC). Concurrently, two men’s teams met at the University of Delaware in Newark, Del.
On the women’s side, the two-day tournament featured each team playing five matches to determine the three qualifiers for the United States Field Hockey League (USFHL) Adult National Club Championship (NCC), scheduled for July 18 to 20 at the University of Delaware.
The participating teams included dcDragons (Washington, D.C.), Delaware Field Hockey Association (Middletown, Del.), Relentless FHC (Richmond, Va.), RVA Tidewater FHC (Richmond, Va.), VB Rockfish (Virginia Beach, Va.) and Washington Field Hockey Association (WFHA) (Washington, D.C.). Each team faced off against each other, creating a full weekend of high-energy, competitive matchups.
The dcDragons women emerged as tournament champions for the second year in a row, going undefeated with a 4-0-1 record. WFHA claimed second place with an impressive 4-1-0 finish, while Relentless FHC—making their Adult RCC debut—earned third place with a 2-1-2 record, edging out their nearest competitor, Delaware Field Hockey Association, by a single point.
The dcDragons men left no doubt in their pursuit of a spot at the Adult National Club Championship, overpowering Philly Premier in their two matches to secure the lone bid from their region for men. With a commanding 9–0 win in Game 1 and a decisive 6–1 victory in Game 2, the dcDragons showcased relentless attack and disciplined defense throughout the series.
With the sweep, the dcDragons men officially punched their ticket to the Adult NCCs, where they’ll look to carry their momentum onto the national stage.
With the conclusion of the Mid-Atlantic Adult RCC, the final three women's spots and single men's spot to the USFHL Adult RCC have been claimed. The stage is ready for competition to see who is the best adult club team in the country.
