Passmore Announces New Zealand Series Squad

Share:

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – U.S. Women’s National Team Head Coach David Passmore has named the 24-athlete squad that will compete in the Cathy Bessant International Series against No. 10 New Zealand. The series will feature two International Hockey Federation (FIH) sanctioned matches on Saturday, July 5 and Sunday, July 6, both starting at 10:00 a.m. ET.

“Following the success of the first series against Ireland, I am excited for the team to return to the pitch against a quality opponent, “added Passmore. “It’s always good to play a side who knows you well. New Zealand has improved since then and we have changed some aspects of our game so it should be an exciting and interesting series especially with some younger athletes and some returning from college and injury. This will be the final opportunity to evaluate the athletes and select the competing team for the 2025 Pan American Cup in July.”

For each sanctioned match the competing squad will be narrowed to 18 athletes.

The No. 14 United Eagles and New Zealand last met at the beginning of 2024 in the FIH Hockey Olympic Qualifier in Ranchi, India. With a spot in the semifinals on the line, USA tallied early in the second quarter and held on for the 1-0 shutout win behind a great defensive performance.

The USWNT will use these two series as final preparations before the Pan American Cup set to take place July 24 to August 3, 2025 in Montevideo, Uruguay. The competing women’s squad will be named soon with the traveling roster departing on July 17.

Both matches will be played on the campus of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte at Field 13. Admission is free but fans must have a ticket for entry. Click here to get tickets. Games will be live streamed on USA Field Hockey’s YouTube, provided by HomeTeam Network.
