Successful 2026 CanAm Indoor Series for USWNT
MT. OLIVE, N.J. – This past weekend, the U.S. Women's National Indoor Team hosted the 2026 CanAm Indoor Series at the Center Court Sport Complex in Mt. Olive, N.J. Two USA teams competed against their Canada counterparts, and the United Eagles capped off a successful weekend with a 4-2 record.
"The CanAm Indoor Series was a masterclass in progress for our developmental squads," said Maddy Sposito, Indoor USMNT Associate Head Coach. "Facing a highly competitive opponent, our athletes didn't just compete - they evolved. We saw significant growth and development both on and off the court, as the players translated tactical adjustments into high-pressure execution while strengthening the team chemistry that defines our program's future."
USA 1 opened the CanAm Indoor Series with a 3-0 shutout. A goal from Allison Meehan (Norfolk, Mass.) in the 9th minute of the first quarter stood as the only tally for the first three frames, giving USA the narrow lead. Two penalty corner goals in the 34th minute from USA's Ella Gaitan (Belvidere, N.J.) and Madelynn Stahl (Palmyra, Pa.) sealed the victory.
USA 2 had a comfortable victory over Canada 2 in their first contest of the tournament behind a hat-trick from Kaylee Hester (Richmond, Va.). USA jumped to an early 2-0 lead after the first quarter with field goals from Estelle Donald (Chester Springs, Pa.) and Hester. USA went on to tally three more in the second through Amherst Danielson (Rye, N.J.), Raya McHenry (Ashburn, Va.) and Brayden Johnston (Suffolk, Va.). The third quarter saw the Eagles produce three goals in succession—two from Hester and one from McHenry—before Canada added one back. Madeleine Rousseau (Anchorage, N.Y.) scored an unanswered goal in the final period for the 9-1 win.
After a scoreless first quarter, it was Canada who tallied two late in the second, but not before USA's Estelle Donald (Chester Springs, Pa.) added one to make the halftime score 2-1. Canada was the only team to find the back of the goal in the third to make the margin 3-1 in its favor. The closing period was action-packed, as USA fought their way back to tie the match at 3-3. First, Raya McHenry (Ashburn, Va.) scored in the 33rd minute, and then Donald added her second of the game off a penalty corner in the 37th minute. That excitement was short-lived, as just a minute later Canada notched the game winner.
USA jumped to an early lead when Allison Meehan (Norfolk, Mass.) found the back of the goal in the 2nd minute and Meadow D'Annibale (Newton, N.J.) followed two minutes later. Just before the close of the first frame, Canada tallied to make it 2-1. The Eagles added three in the second quarter to extend their lead to 5-1. First Ava Boland (Stevensville, Md.) scored in the 12th minute, then Ella Gaitan (Belvidere, N.J.) in the 17th minute, and lastly D'Annibale got her second of the game in the 19th. Each team scored twice in the second half, with three of the goals coming inside a three minute span, but USA held on for the 7-3 win.
A goal heavy second and third quarter propelled USA over Canada in the penultimate match. Estelle Donald (Chester Springs, Pa.) opened the scoring for USA in the 12th minute off a penalty corner, and Brayden Johnston (Suffolk, Va.) doubled the lead heading into halftime. The third quarter was all USA, with tallies from Donald, Madeleine Rousseau (Anchorage, N.Y.), and Mia Morrell (West Depford, N.J.). Canada scored a lone, consolation goal in the fourth period.
The weekend closed out with a competitive match that went in favor of Canada. After going down 2-0 in first quarter, USA bounced back with a trio of goals in the second to take a 3-2 lead at the half. The first two came from Mary O'Connor (Wynnewood, Pa.), on a penalty stroke and penalty corner, and the third from Ella Gaitan (Belvidere, N.J.). Canada went on to score three unanswered, even notching a penalty stroke of their own, to claim the hard fought final victory.
