Make the Save Presenter: Tristan Clemons

by USA Field Hockey

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The inaugural Make the Save Multi-Sport Goalkeeping Coaches Forum, hosted by USA Field Hockey, will be held live on Zoom on Thursday, May 20 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. ET. Hosts Phil Edwards, USA Field Hockey's Senior Manager of Coaching and Performance, and Craig Parnham, USA Field Hockey's Director of Coach Education and Learning, will be joined by coaches and specialists from a range of different sports who will share their perspectives on supporting the development of goalkeepers of all levels.

Today, USA Field Hockey is excited to introduce the third Make the Save presenter who will provide an insight into his philosophy on field hockey goalkeeping, Tristan Clemons.

Tristan is a recently retired international field hockey goalkeeper representing Australia on 51 occasions between 2011 and 2018. During this time, he had the opportunity to work with a number of world class goalkeeping coaches which helped shape his own goalkeeping style as well as his philosophy around the coaching of goalkeepers. During his time with  Australia's national program, he was successful in pursuing his career away from the pitch, obtaining his Doctor of Philosophy in chemistry working on biomaterials for the treatment of disease and injury.

His retirement in 2018 coincided with an opportunity to come to the United States to continue his research at Northwestern University, where he has also been serving as the volunteer assistant with the Northwestern Wildcats field hockey program. Tristan has considerable experience in the coaching of goalkeepers from first-timers through to working with college, state and national programs.

Tristan will be presenting on The Simple Science of Goalkeeping – From Both Sides of the Mask. His presentation will provide an insight into his philosophy on field hockey goalkeeping, using anecdotes from his playing and coaching experiences as examples to make for a fun and interactive session.

A detailed schedule and presenter information for the Make the Forum will be released at a later date.
