U.S. Masters Committees Announce Indoor Tryout Dates & Locations

With USA Field Hockey hosting the first international Masters event in the 2022 World Masters Hockey (WMH) Masters Indoor World Cup (MIWC), the U.S. Masters Committees have announced the tryout dates and location for the U.S. Men’s and Women’s Masters Indoor Squads. The MIWC will take place February 15 to 20 at the at the Virginia Beach Sports Center in Virginia Beach, Va.

 

The U.S. Men’s Masters tryout will be held Saturday, July 10 and Sunday, July 11 at the Indian Creek School in Crownsville, Md. The men will be entering teams in the O-40, O-45, O-50, O-55 and O-60 divisions at the MIWC. All athletes wishing to be considered for selection should register by Saturday, July 10 at 10:00 a.m. ET. There is a cost associated with this tryout.

 

The in-person tryout will start July 10 at 11:00 a.m. ET and finish July 11 by 1:00 p.m. The weekend will include skill evaluation and small sided play, and then an emphasis on full game play. For athletes that are interested but are unable to make in-person tryout, they will be eligible for selection through the online selection process. Those will need to still register and fill out the indoor playing experience part of registration as well as submit the fitness testing requirement.

The U.S. Women’s Masters tryout will be held Saturday, July 10 and Sunday, July 11 at the Marple Sports Arena in Broomall, Pa. The women will be entering teams in the O-40, O-45, O-50, O-55 and O-60 divisions at the MIWC. All athletes wishing to be considered for selection should register by Wednesday, July 7 at 11:59 p.m. ET. There is a cost associated with this tryout.

 

If anyone is unable to attend the in-person tryout, individuals can register for the alternative method of selection and details will be provided (fee still applicable). The deadline for the alternative selection submissions is Friday, July 9 at 11:59 p.m. ET.

All athletes must be active members (temporary memberships will not be offered) of USA Field Hockey to participate in these tryouts.

 

If selected to represent Team USA at the MIWC, the cost of the teams is self-funded and will include entry fees, facility rentals, uniforms, airfare, accommodations, and food. The cost will be dependent on where the athlete is traveling from. Based on previous tournaments’ general cost, it is safe to budget between $1,000 to $2,500.

 

Age qualification is calculated as of December 31 of each year. For example, if an individual turns 50 before the end of 2022, he/she can play for the O-50 Masters Team in any competition in 2022.


As per WMH regulations, to be eligible to represent a country in an inter-nation Masters event, “a player must be a national of that country or have been a resident of that country for a minimum of 12 months.” The U.S Masters Committees have interpreted this to mean being a citizen or having had permanent residence status for at least 12 months.
