VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The second day of the 2021 Young Women’s National Championship saw more high-caliber matches at the Virginia Beach Regional Training Center in Virginia Beach, Va.

In the first game, Pride topped Patriots, 2-1. Pride opened the scoring just 2:30 into the match off a penalty corner when Madeleine Zimmer (Hershey, Pa.) buried a hard sweep to the corner of the cage. They extended their lead in the 37th minute, again off a penalty corner. After the initial shot was stopped, Zimmer collected the rebound and sent the backhand in. Patriots capitalized on a pulled goalkeeper situation to cut the margin in the 56th minute. A great build-up on the right side led to a cross that Margo Carlin (Drexel Hill, Pa.) finished.

In match two, Courage defeated Honor, 2-0. The first goal came in the 12th minute after a buildup on the right side was finished in by Emma Way (Mechanicsburg, Pa.). Way scored again in the third frame in the 33rd minute off a penalty corner deflection to seal the win.

Next, Freedom came from behind to score three in a row to win over Brave, 3-2. The match started with Brave’s Emma Tamer (Whitmore Lake, Mich.) scoring off a penalty corner deflection. They extended their lead in the 40th minute on a field goal that was started in the right corner and Kylee Niswonger (Dexter, Mich.) finished on the backhand. Freedom scored all their goals in the fourth quarter off penalty corners, starting just one-minute in. Cassie Sumfest (Lewisburg, Pa.) buried her drag into the left corner. Next, Megan Rodgers (San Diego, Calif.) scored two within a minute span. The first was a diving goal and the next was a backhand following a miss trap.

Following, Spirit fended off a late rally from Dream for a 2-1 victory. Spirit scored on an open field buildup in the 3rd minute through Corinne Zanolli (Newtown Square, Pa.). Zanolli had a hand in the second goal in the 18th minute after driving the baseline and dumping it toward the top of the circle where Sammy Popper (Blue Bell, Pa.) finished with a sweep high into the net. Dream cut the deficit scoring 25 seconds into the fourth quarter off a penalty corner. Laura Hurff (Newark, Del.) sent a drag down to Mayv Clune (Quakertown, Pa.) who deflected it in off the right post.

The final game saw Liberty beat Unity, 2-1. Unity scored first in the 11th minute when Molly McAndrew (Cherry Hill, N.J.) crossed the ball and Hope Rose (Dauphin, Pa.) one timed it into the net. Sophia Southam (Ann Arbor, Mich.) evened the score for Liberty off a penalty corner deflection in the 40th minute and nine minutes later Madison Maguire (Rumson, N.J.) received it with space and ripped a goal from the right side of the circle for the game winner.
