VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – On day three of the event and second day of competition for the men, both divisions battled it out at the 2021 Young Men’s National Championship at the Virginia Beach Regional Training Center in Virginia Beach, Va.

The U-16 division finished in a high scoring game where Stripes topped Stars, 5-3. Five minutes in, Stripes’ Mehtab Grewal (Somis, Calif.) sent a penalty corner drag into the upper right. Zane Boler (Lewisberry, Pa.) extended the lead in the 13th minute on a backhand sweep. Stars added one back in the second frame after a restart outside the circle was sent in and Pablo Rubio Lucia (Ridgefield, Conn.) had a sweeping redirection. Stripes added three in the third quarter, with Stars tallying one. The first came just 25 seconds in following a crossing pass that was finished by Stripes’ Boler, for his second of the game. Grewal also tallied his second off another penalty corner drag, this time to the lower right of the goal. With 2:45 remaining, a hard circle entry by Stars lead to a goal by Nicolas Diaz (Key Biscayne, Fla.). Ninety seconds later Stripes responded when Lucas Mous (Weston, Fla.) sent a ball into the circle and Michael Fortini (Santa Rosa Valley, Calif.) had a perfect reverse deflection. The scoring looked to be complete but Stars added one more less than a minute to go in the game when Willem Pouw (Santa Rosa Valley, Calif.) drove the circle and passed it across the goal where Michael Egan (Chatham, N.J.) touched it in.

Next the U-22 division saw a dominant scoring performance for Stripes over Stars, 4-0. Two minutes into the game Wyatt Katz (Santa Rosa Valley, Calif.) tucked it past the goalkeeper to open the scoring. With one-minute remaining in the first quarter, Stripes used quick passing around the goalkeeper that led to Katz’ second of the game. In the 36th minute, Henzor Motta (San Juan, Puerto Rico) sent a ball toward goal and Danish Singh (Phoenix, Ariz.) got a touch on it. With 90 seconds to go in the match, Liam Hawley (Ventura, Calif.) closed out the scoring off a penalty corner rebound.
