The 8th annual Junior Premier Outdoor League (JPOL) came to a close on Sunday, June 13. After more than a year of two canceled seasons due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we were finally able to bring the athletes back to the field and compete for the first time since February 2020.

In closing out the 2021 season, we reflect on the challenges faced in organizing running this event in the COVID-19 environment.

Securing venues was our greatest challenge with most universities and high schools not permitting outside groups. Each venue we were able to secure also had separate COVID-19 policies. Fortunately, we were able to access sufficient venues to host this year’s JPOL and put in place our own COVID-19 policy to keep everyone safe and to abide by all facility’s protocols. Thanks to all participant’s patience and understanding, we were able to overcome all challenges and have another successful JPOL season.

Special appreciation goes to Region 7 clubs who had to travel to a venue in Region 8 in order to have the season at all.

At this time, let us celebrate all victors and show our appreciation to all participants, supporters, volunteers and sponsors who tirelessly give their time and experience to make JPOL possible.

Much appreciation to the club directors, coaches and their membership who join us each spring to bring the league to life. Many thanks to the Umpire Managers (UMs), Technical Directors (TDs) and their staff of dedicated Technical Officers (TO) and Umpires. You all give so much of you time and talent to be part of this event and its continued successes.

Special thanks and appreciation to the parent judges from each club who stepped up each week to give a helping hand at the Technical Table ensuring that the results and statistics were accurate. Thank you for your service!

To our dedicated JPH Directors, Lurah Hess, Technical Director; Kim Scott, AltiusRT Director; and Rachael Bloemker, Acting Director of Umpiring, who contribute countless hours of work behind the scenes to help make JPOL the event it has become to date.

To the college coaches, we hope to see you return to our stands in 2022 once your COVID policies permit. We believe that this is a perfect arena for recruiting and you will be able to find a JPOL competition happening within a short drive.

Much appreciation to the private institutions for granting us access and use of its facilities year after year. We hope to continue developing great relationships with you all and look forward to getting access to returning next year.

Special recognition to Savage Field Hockey, Official Ball Supplier, and Harrow Sports, Official Awards Sponsor. Thank you for your continued support and believing in this event!

To USA Field Hockey and Staff who worked closely with JPH throughout the season, we appreciate the continued support shown in working together for the good of the sport and your membership. We thank you and look forward to building and strengthening our relationship as a Sanctioned Event that benefits the membership and at the same time grows the game by creating opportunities to players, umpires, and technical staff.

And finally - Congratulations the 2021 JPOL Champions and Special Award recipients for an outstanding performance. From the first matches in April to the various Championships, the improvements in the quality of hockey are commendable and reflects your commitment to your club and the sport of hockey.
