The 2021 New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Tournament got underway on October 30 with the Quarterfinals.

No. 1 Middlebury blanked No. 8 Bates, 4-0, to extend their home winning streak to 48. The Panthers advance to the NESCAC Semifinals for the 10th straight time and are back in action next weekend when they host the rest of the conference tournament.

No. 2 Tufts beat No. 7 Hamilton in overtime, 2-1, to punch their ticket to the Semifinals. The Jumbos had been trailing 1-0 with just six minutes remaining in the fourth quarter. They scored to tie it on  their 11th and final  penalty corner of the game to force it into extra time. Just three minutes into overtime, senior Gillian Roeca scored to give Tufts the win.

No. 3 Bowdoin earned redemption when they beat No. 6 Amherst, who defeated the Polar Bears in the conference opener back in September by a 2-1 margin. The 1-0 game was decided in the first minute of the game when Bowdoin scored off their first penalty corner of the game. The two teams played physical back and forth field hockey throughout the first 30 minutes. The midfield action resulted in only four total shots in the first half, with three on net. Both teams managed more time in the circles during the fourth quarter, totaling three shots each. The Mammoths earned a penalty corner in the final seconds of play, but Maddie Ferrucci turned away the initial shot and Georgie Coezter cleared the rebound over the sideline.

No. 4 Trinity beat No. 5 Williams, 2-1, after scoring back-to-back goals in the third quarter.

In the Semifinals, No. 1 Middlebury takes on No. 4 Trinity at 11:00 a.m. ET, while No. 2 Tufts and No. 3 Bowdoin play at 1:30 p.m. ET on Saturday, November 6.

The 2021 NESCAC Final is set for Sunday, November 7 at 12:00 p.m. ET. Back in 2019, Middlebury defeated Tufts in a thrilling 3-2 overtime match to secure their third straight and 6th in the last eight years NESCAC title.
