by USA Field Hockey

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Following the opportunity for evaluation at the two Open Trial Weekends, U.S. Men’s National Team Head Coach Harry Singh and his staff have named the 2021-22 Senior and Development U.S. Men’s National Team rosters.

“The past few weeks have been incredible for the tryout selections on the West and East Coasts,” commented Singh. “We have included some exciting and highly talented players in our squads which gives us more depth and strength for future selections, as well as providing the opportunity for the players to grow together as a formidable unit. I believe the athletes are looking forward to the coming competitions and test series. We are in an important year for producing a good result, and I am sure these players will also provide good healthy competition within the squad.”

More than 25 athletes attended either the first Open Trial weekend held in Moorpark, Calif. on September 3 and 6 or the second Open Trial weekend held in Spring City, Pa. on September 11 and 12.

Leading the senior squad with the most international experience is Pat Harris (Moorpark, Calif.), USMNT Assistant Coach, U-21 USMNT Head Coach and Indoor USMNT, who has 150 caps to his name. Joining him is a solid group that has been with the program the past few years, including winning bronze at the 2019 Pan American Games (PAG), the squads first medal at the event in 24 years. Those athletes are Michael Barminski (Ventura, Calif.), Tom Barratt (Greensboro, N.C.), Sean Cicchi (Westlake Village, Calif.), Ajai Dhadwal (Agoura Hills, Calif.), Mohan Gandhi (Great Britain), Aki Kaeppeler (New York City, N.Y), Jonathan Klages (Berlin, Germany), Adam Miller (Panama City, Fla.) and Johnny Orozco (Ventura, Calif.). Amar Khokhar (Valencia, Calif.) returns to the senior side after competing at the 2017 Pan American Cup, and Tyler Sundeen (Simi Valley, Calif.) returns after stepping away following the 2019 PAG.

They are joined by several athletes that aged-up and transitioned from the junior squads. Shomik Chakraborty (Washington, D.C.), Christian DeAngelis (Doylestown, Pa.), Khokhar, Henzor Motta (San Juan, Puerto Rico), Phil Schofield (Ventura, Calif.) and Damien Tarala (Norwalk, Conn.) are coming off a bronze medal finish at the 2021 U-22 Junior Pan American Championship.

Twelve athletes named have spent time on the U.S. Men’s National Indoor Team, with another five being completely new to the mix.

Three goalkeepers were named to the squad. Klages is the only returner but is joined by Chakraborty, who was on the 2019 and 2020 U-21 USMNT and 2020 and 2021 Indoor USMNT, and Schofield, who has been part of the junior men’s program since 2014.
