Women’s Junior Selection Camp Details Confirmed

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – USA Field Hockey’s women’s Junior High Performance Team is pleased to announce the details for the upcoming U-16 and U-18 Selection Camp and U-21 and Development Squad Selection Camp.

The U-16 and U-18 Selection Camp will take place at The Kinkaid School in Houston, Texas from Tuesday, December 27 to Friday, December 30, 2022. Athletes will train, compete and be evaluated during the four-day camp and each age group camp will run simultaneously to one another. The 2023 U.S. U-16 and U-18 Women’s National Team will be named at the conclusion of the Selection Camp.

The U-21 and Development Squad Selection Camp will take place at the Chula Vista Elite Athlete Training Center in Chula Vista, Calif. from Wednesday, January 4 to Sunday, January 8, 2023. Athletes for this camp were selected at the conclusion of the 2022 Nexus Championship, presented by Osaka Hockey, and 2022 Senior Nexus Championship, presented by Osaka Hockey, as well as some identified by the U.S. U-21 Women’s National Team Coaching Staff. All current USWNT athletes that are eligible for U-21 competition in 2023 have been included in this group. At this Selection Camp, these athletes will be evaluated to be named to the 2023 U.S. U-21 Women’s National Team and U.S. Women’s National Development Squad.

“There is a wealth of talented players at this level and the Senior Nexus Championship provided a great opportunity for athletes of the Olympic Development Pathway to compete with and against each other,” said Tracey Paul, U-21 USWNT Head Coach. “I believe the future is very optimistic for USA Field Hockey and I'm excited for the players invited to the U-21 and Development Squad Selection Camp as 2023 is going to provide outstanding competitive experiences that will position USA Field Hockey for success.”

Once selected, the U-21 squad will prepare for the Junior Pan American Championship in April in Barbados with hopes to qualify for the women’s FIH Hockey Junior World Cup in December in Chile. The athletes above this age group will be offered opportunities to train with the USWNT as they prepare for the FIH Hockey Pro League matches in 2023.
