KINGSTON, Jamaica – The U.S. Women’s National Team opened their 2023 Hockey5s Pan American Cups (PAC) campaign against Costa Rica at Mona Hockey Field in Kingston, Jamaica. Taking a 3-0 lead at the half, USA tallied another five in the second for a dominant first pool game win.

USA wasted no time taking control of the game and getting on the scoreboard early. Lora Clarke (Shaker Heights, Ohio) put the United Eagles up 2-0 within the first 3 minutes. Costa Rica goalkeeper Gloriana López denied two shots from Charlotte de Vries (Malvern, Pa.) and both Carter Ayars (Wilmington, Del.) and Linnea Gonzales (Bel Air, Md.) saw chances ring off the post. Natalie Konerth (Huntingtown, Md.) had back-to-back looks stopped by López before in the 9th minute Jans Croon (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) made it 3-0 putting in a rebound off a shot by Clarke.

Two minutes into the second half, De Vries saw a fore and backhand shot denied by Lopez. This was followed up by Costa Rica’s first chance that USA goalkeeper Kealsie Robles (Seaford, Va.) calmly turned away. In the 13th minute, De Vries buried a shot in the corner to make it 4-0. Two minutes later, Clarke tallied again, giving her a hat trick, and USA added three more in the next subsequent minutes. Ayars scored back-to-back goals in the 16th and 17th minutes, while Konerth closed out the scoring to make the final 8-0.

USA returns to the court tomorrow, June 5, where they will play two games. First against Guatemala at 2:40 p.m. ET and then Paraguay at 6:40 p.m. ET.
