Region 5 Administrative Manager: Britney Ewan

Britney Ewan is in her second year as the USA Field Hockey Administration Manager for Region 5/6 after serving as a Lead coach and Site Director. She is currently the head coach at Clearview Regional High School in Mullica Hill, N.J. Since taking the helm in 2006, she has led the team to six Conference Championships, Six Sectional Championships and three State Championships. Clearview Field Hockey is also regionally ranked and has been under her tenure several times. She has been named New Jersey “Coach of the Year” twice, South Jersey “Coach of the Year” four times and National Coach of the Year in 2019. She holds the most wins by a coach at Clearview and is 7th in New Jersey for most wins. She is the president of the South Jersey Field Hockey Coaches Association and serves on the NJSIAA Field Hockey coaches panel.
Prior to coaching at Clearview, Britney played Division I field hockey after going through the USA Futures Program herself, competing at the National Tournament and Junior Olympics. She has her USA Field Hockey Level 2 coaching accreditation, coaches with Spirit of USA Field Hockey Club and resides in South Jersey with her family.
Region 5 Coach Manager: Melissa McCarthy

Mel enters her first year as USA Field Hockey’s Coach Manager after serving as a long-time Nexus coach and site director. She is also in her fifth year as the head coach at Widener University and her tenth season with the program. Since her appointment in 2019, McCarthy has led the Pride to several milestones, including their first MAC Commonwealth Finals appearance and a tie for the program record in single-season wins. She earned her 50th career victory this past season.
McCarthy brings extensive coaching and leadership experience to the Nexus team. She has coached at the Junior Olympics, three Nexus Championships, Senior Nexus Training Sites, and has led Nexus programming across Pennsylvania. She has also worked closely with the W.C. Eagles Field Hockey Club. Beyond coaching, she continues to play, captaining the Running on Empty club team, and competing with the O35 USA Masters Outdoor and Indoor National Teams. She is a Level 2 accredited coach.
Before coaching, McCarthy played two seasons at Millersville before appearing in 36 games for Hofstra’s Division I program. She graduated summa cum laude from Hofstra in 2013 with degrees in early childhood education, childhood education, and psychology. She teaches two courses at Widener University, completed a master’s degree in Organizational Development and Leadership in 2023, is a certified strength and conditioning coach and QPR instructor, and owns Melissa McCarthy Training Academy, LLC.
