The following is a list of upcoming Coaching Clinics. If you would like to attend a Level 1 or Level 2 Instructional Coaching Clinic or are interested in organizing one for your local community, please contact USA Field Hockey at coaching@usafieldhockey.com for more information. |
Level 1 Instructional Coaching Clinic
The Level 1 Instructional Coaching Clinic is the first level of Certification in the Coach Education Program. This course is recommended for all field hockey coaches of all levels. The game of field hockey has changed significantly over the past decade. The introduction of synthetic turf and continual innovations have sped up the game, inspiring new tactics, techniques and rules to accommodate the faster play. Whether you coach players on grass, field turf, water or sand-based turf, teaching these new skills properly, and in a fun engaging way, will enable you and your team to develop and succeed, and your program to grow.
Level 1 Clinics are an 8-hour in-person offering that covers a broad range of topics essential for coaching success. Some course preparation is required. Level 1 Clinics provide an opportunity for professional development and networking within your local field hockey community. Upon completion of the course, all participants will receive their Level 1 Coaching Certification. This certification will remain valid as long as your USA Field Hockey Coaching Membership remains current and certification will lapse without a current membership. Coaches interested in working in USA Field Hockey's Futures Program must have a Level 1 Certificate and a current USA Field Hockey Membership to be eligible to apply.

USA Field Hockey’s Level 2 Instructional Coaching Clinic is a 14-hour offering that expands on several of the topics covered in the Level 1 Clinic and will challenge participants to further define and evaluate their individual coaching philosophies, styles, techniques while encouraging self-assessment. This course is also recommended for field hockey coaches of all levels. Coaches will work in groups to share best practices and receive peer feedback in a comfortable and encouraging environment. Level 2 Clinics offer an additional opportunity for professional development and local networking and mentorship. Upon completion of the course, all participants will receive their USA Field Hockey Level 2 Coaching Certification.
This Certification will remain valid as long as your USA Field Hockey Coaching Membership remains current, and will lapse without a USA Field Hockey Membership. Coaches interested in being Regional Futures Coaches and AAU Junior Olympic Games coaches, attending the National Coaches Forum or becoming a USA Field Hockey Coach Educator, must have a current Level 2 Coaching Certification to be eligible.
If the coach's membership and/or background check expires, their certification becomes invalid. Once a member renews either of those two items, the certification is reinstated. Level 3 Instructional Coaching Clinic
USA Field Hockey revamped the Coaching Accreditation system in 2016. At that time, approximately 35 coaches in the United States had attained their Level 3 status through the old system. All Level 3 Coaches will maintain their Level 3 Certification as long as their USA Field Hockey Coach Membership remains current. In the meantime, USA Field Hockey is working on the new Level 3 Certification Course. As in the previous system, Level 3 Certification is up to a year long commitment and is the first level in the Coach Accreditation Pathway (CAP) in which coaches are assessed and evaluated over a period of time. More information about the Level 3 Instructional Coaching Clinic will be available in late 2017.
