Senior Nexus Championship

A key part of the Olympic Development Pathway, the Senior Nexus Championship (NXC), formerly called the Young Women’s National Championship, is an annual event for collegiate and post-collegiate female athletes. Held annually, the Senior NXC features 144 elite female athletes in the Unites States and serves as a selection opportunity for the Senior U.S. Women's National Team and Junior USWNT Selection Camps.

    History:

    • Originally started in 2006 as the Women's National Championship, this event was held annually and featured the most elite athletes in the country in a high-level, international structured competition.
    • In 2010, the Junior Women's National Championship was added for athletes under 20 years of age, which served as the Olympic Development Pathway program to the Junior USWNT.
    • In 2013, the Junior Women's National Championship changed names to the U-21 Women's National Championship. The U-21 Women's National Championship was also held in conjunction with the Futures Elite Championship event.
    • In 2015, the Women's National Championship and Junior U-21 Women's National Championship events combined and the name was changed to the Young Women's National Championship.
    • In 2020, this event did not take place due to COVID-19.
    • In 2022, the Young Women's National Championship named changed to the Senior Nexus Championship, to better align with the Olympic Development Pathway program Nexus.
    • In 2023, the Senior Nexus Championship was held at the same time and location as the Junior Nexus Championship.
