Kentwell Announces Roster for Upcoming Series Between Indoor USWNT & Ireland

SPRING CITY, Pa. – U.S. Women’s National Indoor Team Head Coach Jun Kentwell has announced the team that will play in five friendly matches against Ireland this weekend, from June 7 to 9. Set to take place at The Training Center in Spring City, Pa., this series comes less than 3 months after qualifying the 2025 FIH Hockey Indoor World Cup and is the start of preparation for the event next year.

“With a number of players unavailable with outdoor commitments this series of games against an experienced Ireland squad will give a number of new players the opportunity to test their ability at a higher level,” commented Kentwell. “It is also pleasing to have Annika and Sydney available again as we look toward the Indoor World Cup.”

The team will be captained by Abigail Burnett (Zionsville, Pa.), one of eight from the squad that won gold at the 2024 Indoor Pan American Cup (IPAC) this past March. The other seven are IPAC Most Valuable Player and Top Goal Scorer Reese D’Ariano (West Chester, Pa.), Sofia Ferri (Phoenixville, Pa.), Abigail Gerdeman (Chester Springs, Pa.), Erin Matson (Chadds Ford, Pa.), Sabrina Mcgroarty (Mickleton, N.J.), Opal Sparling (Chester Springs, Pa.) and Melea Weber (Macungie, Pa.). Novice to the international scene Colleen Conlan (Horsham, Pa.) will be the goalkeeper.

The staff, led by Kentwell, will include assistant coach Hannah Prince, trainer/physiologist Aaron Finer and team manager Richard Kentwell.

There will be no livestream, but all matches are free and open to the public. Five USA umpires have been appointed to officiate the friendly, unsanctioned matches including Katie Bulk, Amy Daniel, Andrew Estrada, Hannah Maisano and Allie Mikelson.

One week after the series concludes, the tryouts for the Junior and Senior Indoor USWNT will take place at The Training Center in Spring City, Pa. on Sunday, June 16. All athletes, from age 11 through adult women, interested in training in the 2024-25 U.S. Women’s National Indoor Team program and playing for the Junior, Development or Senior Indoor USWNT should register. The deadline to register is Thursday, June 13, 2024 by 11:59 p.m. ET.
