Junior USWNT Advances to JPAG Final With Win Over Uruguay
ASUNCIÓN, Paraguay – A thrilling semifinal between the No. 6 Junior U.S. Women’s National Team and No. 22 Uruguay highlighted today's matches at the 2025 Junior Pan American Games (JPAG) in Asunción, Paraguay. A 2-1 victory for the Junior Eagles secured them a spot in the championship.
The red, white and blue won their first penalty corner chance at minute 9, but the shot went wide. The outcome was different four minutes later when Alaina McVeigh put away a straight shot off another set piece to give USA the first lead.
A third penalty corner opportunity early in the second quarter saw the insert from Maci Bradford up to Alaina McVeigh and back to Bradford, whose shot on cage earned USA a penalty stroke. McVeigh stepped up and converted the chance to put USA up 2-0.
The second quarter saw a surge of energy from the Uruguay attack, as USA's defense withstood four penalty corners, including a save from goalkeeper Alyssa Klebasko and strong fly from Lauren Masters.
It was a quiet third quarter, with both sides earning a fruitless penalty corner. The final frame was a different story, seeing a goal from Maci Bradford in the 49th minute overturned after a video referral and Uruguay taking advantage with a quick transition that finished with a goal. With just a 2-1 lead, and ten minutes to play, the Junior Eagles withstood the Uruguay attack to seal a win.
