USA Field Hockey Secures New Medal Supplier in Badges & Medals

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - USA Field Hockey is joining forces with medal supplier Badges and Medals to take its sustainability to the next level.

For the next three years, medals that USA Field Hockey awards to participating athletes at national events will be made from 100% recycled metal, keeping two plastic bottles from entering the world’s oceans.

The medals will also be packed in paper instead of single-use plastic bags, and trees will be planted in the Amazon to offset their shipping emissions.

Medals from Badges and Medals are not only affordable, beautiful and custom-designed by a talented and conscientious team of professionals, but the fact that the materials are made from recycled metals and plastics helps to raise the bar on sustainability,” said Ginger Wheeler, USA Field Hockey’s Commercial Partnership and Marketing Manager. “We’re happy that this choice can have an effect on the health of our planet while also bringing incredible joy to our participating athletes.”

Badges and Medals Chief Executive Officer Hamish Larsen praised USA Field Hockey for raising the bar on sustainability in the field hockey industry.

He said that by partnering with Badges and Medals, USA Field Hockey will make a difference not only for the environment, but for vulnerable communities.

“Over three years, we’re projecting that USA Field Hockey will stop 25,500 plastic bottles or 510 kilograms of plastic from entering the ocean across all events by using Badges and Medals as their awards supplier. That’s a big deal,” added Larsen.

“In return, the people who collect the plastic will earn income and other life-changing benefits, such as health insurance and school supplies.”

This helps them end the cycle of poverty, he said.

“USA Field Hockey is showing that it’s possible to have exceptional medals while still being environmentally and socially responsible.”
