Excitement Resumes on Day 4 of 2026 World Masters Hockey Indoor World Cup
NOTTINGHAM, England - It was a full day of action on the fourth day of competition at the 2026 World Masters Hockey Indoor World Cup (MIWC) in Nottingham, England. The U.S. O-55 Women picked up a shutout win over Australia, while all teams but the O-35 Men and O-45 Women will head into their final matches tomorrow.
It was a back-and-forth contest between the U.S. O-50 Men and Canada in the crossover game. USA scored first through Rennie Milne (Philadelphia, Pa.) from a penalty corner, and held the 1-0 first quarter lead. The second period was action packed with four combined goals. Quickly Canada evened the game, but within the 16th and 17th minutes USA went ahead off field goals from Vernon Vassou (Arlington, Va.) and Sau Lee (Saint Johns, Fla.). Canada added one back to make it 3-2 at halftime, and had the only two tallies in the third to go ahead. The match was decided in the final frame. Milne registered his second of the game off a penalty corner to even it , 4-4, but Canada got the game winner in the closing minutes. This narrow loss put USA in the 7th-8th game with Australia.
The U.S. O-65 Men faced a strong England side, never giving up their fight despite being unable to keep up with the pace of their opponents. USA goalkeeper Rene Herrera (Snowflake, Ariz.) saw a lot of action but was remained up for the challenge.
USA's lone goal came in the 32nd minute, when captain Neville Gardner (Bethlehem, Pa.) scored a penalty stroke.
After a scoreless first quarter, Australia went on to tally twice in each of the second and fourth quarters for the 4-0 win. The U.S. O-55 Women didn't go down without a fight, having their fair share of offensive chances, producing six penalty corner chances, but were just unable to find the back of the net. The O-55 Women will take on England in the 4th-5th place game.
It was a tough game against a strong opponent when the U.S. O-35 Women faced Scotland. Scotland scored early and often, as they had balanced scoring throughout the contest. USA got on the board in the 31st minute when Melissa McCarthy (Havertown, Pa.) scored, off an assist from Colleen Cassada (Clayton, N.C.). Athletes showed composure and intensity throughout, but Scotland found success in their quick transition and attacking penalty corner conversion, where they tallied six of their goals. The O-35 Women takes on Ireland in the 5th-6th place game.
The U.S. O-60 Women dominated play throughout the game but were unable to find the back of the net. The LX Ladies goalkeeper made several impressive saves to keep her team in the match. Despite the result, USA showcased excellent teamwork, highlighted by strong communication and well-executed passing sequences. Defensively, the red, white and blue remained solid, conceding only two penalty corners. Overall, the team showed clear improvement with each game they played. The O-60 Women will take on Canada in the 4th-5th place game.
In their last pool game, the U.S. O-60 Men faced the Netherlands. USA played a phenomenal and well-disciplined first half, holding the Dutch to a single goal in the second frame. In the third quarter, the Netherlands converted a penalty corner three minutes in to make it 2-0. However, 4 minutes later, USA forward Erik Enters (Harleysville, Pa.) scored a brilliant field goal putting the USA on the scoreboard. Sadly, the Dutch went on to score three field goals in the fourth quarter handing the USA their fourth loss of the tournament. Goalkeeper Prashant Aji (San Jose, Calif) performed flawlessly throughout the game making several difficult saves keeping the USA in the game. The O-60 Men will see Wales in the 8th-9th place game.
It was a tough contest for the U.S. O-45 Women when they faced Germany. Die Danas got on the board early and never looked back, scoring three in the first, fourth in the second, two in the third and five in the fourth. USA managed a goal through Melissa Weiss (Ann Arbor, Mich.) in the 32nd minute.
In their second match of the day, the U.S. O-65 Men fell 17-1 to Scotland. Their opponents quickness and scoring apply was unmatched, keeping the USA side at bay, save for one field goal in the third quarter from Raghbir Mangat (Gold River, Calif.). Under constant pressure, USA goalkeeper Rene Herrera (Snowflake, Ariz.) made several saves, and was especially active in the final frame when Scotland tallied six of their goals. The O-65 Men will face Wales in the 4th-6th place game.
The U.S. O-65 Women got on the board first, when Jeanette Arnold (Lancaster, Pa.) scored in the 6th minute. LX Ladies evened it three minutes later, and added two more in the second frame to take a 3-1 lead at the half. LXL scored again early in the second half and Arnold notched her second of the game for USA late in the fourth quarter. USA out penalty cornered LXL, six to one, but couldn’t convert. Karen Stoudt (West Chester, Pa.) and goalkeeper Lee Gerdes (Lancaster, Pa.) both registered good games. The O-65 Women will see LXL again in the 5th-6th place game.
The U.S. O-55 Men lost 4-1 to Belgium after a competitive start. Even 1-1 at halftime, because of a goal from Nils Henning (New York, N.Y.), which followed a strong team passing sequence. USA created several scoring chances in the first two quarters, and goalkeeper Walter Velasquez (Gaithersburg, Md.) made a key save on a Belgium penalty corner in the second frame. However, Belgium pulled away in the third period with three additional goals, including a tip-in on a pass. The red, white and blue defense tightened in the fourth, resulting in no goals for either side during that final period. The O-55 Men will play Scotland in the 9th-10th place game.
It was a battled between the U.S. O-35 Women and Ireland. Tied 1-1 at the half, thanks to a penalty corner goal from Lorrie Kiger (Pittsburgh, Pa.), USA was unable to withstand Ireland's scoring prowess as they went on to tally five more. The red, white and blue added one back through Melissa McCarthy (Havertown, Pa.) but they ultimately fell short. The O-35 Women will have a rematch with Ireland in the 5th-6th place game.
