USA Field Hockey Releases Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Statement

by USA Field Hockey

In an effort to make field hockey an accessible and inclusive sport for all, a sport for life, USA Field Hockey formed a Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) Committee in August 2020. The DEI Committee is made up of USA Field Hockey Staff and Foundation Trustees, Board of Director members and volunteers and has been meeting regularly to develop a DEI Statement and a plan for next steps. The DEI Committee’s goal is to ensure field hockey is physically, mentally and emotionally safe for all and to provide leadership, structure and programming to achieve the mission to Grow the Game, Serve Members and Succeed Internationally.

The Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Statement:
USA Field Hockey believes that field hockey, and all sports, must be inclusive, accessible, affordable and safe to support a culture of belonging among all people regardless of race, gender, economic status, sexual orientation, ability and age. USA Field Hockey strives toward a future in which field hockey is more reflective of the demographics of the United States. Field hockey is a sport for all, a sport for life.

The value of sport, and especially team sports, is undeniable. Field hockey provides mental, physical and social benefits and has the power to unite, strengthen and inspire participants at all levels, from grassroots to the Olympic Games.

“USA Field Hockey’s next steps include listening and learning from our staff and stakeholders,” said Simon Hoskins, USA Field Hockey’s Executive Director. “We will use this feedback to shape the development of future educational resources and enhancement of program implementation of all levels.”
