Men’s Junior World Cup: Get to Know Kalinga Stadium

BHUBANESWAR, India – Before the U.S. U-21 Men’s National Team take the pitch for their first game at the FIH Odisha Hockey Men's Junior World Cup in Bhubaneswar, India, let’s get to know the hosting venue, Kalinga Stadium.

 

 

The Odisha region and Bhubaneswar’s Kalinga Stadium is a familiar location for all field hockey fans. Not only did it successfully host the 2018 FIH Odisha Hockey men’s World Cup, it is also where the U.S. Women’s National Team played their 2019 FIH Hockey Olympic Qualifier, and is home to the Coal India Hockey League franchise Kalinga Lancers.

 

The multi-purpose stadium, building 2010, has facilities for athletics, football, basketball, tennis, table tennis and swimming, ensuring that it is well equipped to host international sporting events. The capacity for this prestigious event is going to be increased to 15,000 seats.

 

In 2018, the field hockey stadium went through a massive renovation increasing the seating capacity from 9,000 to 15,000. Two new seating galleries were added on the North and South ends that completed enclosing the spectator views. Some modern features were also added including additional locker rooms, goalkeeper equipment rooms, umpire changing room, dining hall, conference room, media tribune and broadcaster’s room. The pitch lights were also upgraded and broadcast cameras were permanently installed.
