USA Field Hockey Introduces New High Performance Summit

by USA Field Hockey

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – USA Field Hockey is thrilled to announce an exceptional professional development opportunity for members in the form of the High Performance Summit (HPS). This two-day long summit will focus on the topics of coach and umpire education, and will be led by a group of expert personnel that includes U.S. National Team high performance staff.

The HPS offers participants the chance to explore current U.S. National Team practices, engage in meaningful discussions of current trends within the field hockey world with elite high performance staff, and connect with fellow coaches.

The first HPS will take place Wednesday, May 17 from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Thursday, May 18 from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. ET at Queens University of Charlotte’s Bessant Field in Charlotte, N.C. As the USWNT prepares for upcoming international competitions, including the 2023 Pan American Games in October, coaches are invited to participate in the summit and gain exclusive insight into the team's training regimen and preparation strategies.

This event gives those in attendance the opportunity to learn from USA Field Hockey staff, including High Performance Director Craig Parnham, USWNT Head Coach David Passmore, USMNT Head Coach Harry Singh, and Director of Umpiring Sean Rapaport. The HPS will be centered around engagement, connection, networking, supporting the team, and learning from the best professionals in the nation.

"Since my arrival, I have been keen to work with coaches to help share my coaching philosophy and our USWNT journey as we aim to build to Olympic Qualification,” stated Passmore. “The coaches who develop athletes in their development years are the most crucial in the development and long-term success of them and those teams representing the USA. As such, I am delighted to have the opportunity to exchange ideas, share our plans and interact face to face with coaches involved in our current and future national teams.”

This two full-day summit will concentrate on high performance development, planning and execution, making it a valuable professional development opportunity for USA coaches committed to continuous learning. The HPS is suitable for current coach and umpire USA Field Hockey Members who are eager to explore the intricacies of high performance training and gain a more comprehensive understanding of the practical application of training methodologies in the context of international competition.

The HPS includes several on-field and classroom presentations led by elite coaches and coach educators, including Parnham, Passmore, Singh, USWNT Assistant Coach Tracey Fuchs, Guest Coach Javier Telechea, and Performance Analyst Chris Fry. Attendees can look forward to learning valuable skills from these industry experts, such as how to teach the drag flick from Olympian Pietie Coetzee-Turner, and elite goalkeeper training from David Williamson and Olympian Jackie Briggs.

Also joining the HPS team is Sean Rapaport, a world-class umpire and recently appointed Director of Umpiring for USA Field Hockey. Rapaport will share his expertise on a variety of topics related to rule interpretation. Attendees can expect to benefit greatly from his expertise and deepen their understanding of the sport's rules and regulations.
