Harris Names Men’s U-22 Junior Pan American Championship Team

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – U.S. U-21 Men’s National Team Head Coach Pat Harris has named the  18-athlete roster that will compete in the men’s 2021 Junior Pan American Championship (JPAC). Taking place August 21 to 28 at the Prince of Wales Country Club in Santiago, Chile, seven nations will gather in the men’s division for this qualifier for the 2021 FIH Hockey Junior World Cup.

 

“I see a lot of potential in this group,” said Harris. “The team is progressing and we will look to continue to grow in order to give ourselves the best chance of qualifying for the Junior World Cup.”

 

Athletes from the selected squad finished up the Junior Men’s All-Teams Training Camp last week, which aided in the final selection to this team.

 

Christian DeAngelis (Doylestown, Pa.) and Amar Khokar (Valencia, Calif.) are the only two individuals named to the team that competed in 2016. DeAngelis is a current member of the senior U.S. Men’s National Team and competed in 36 international matches. Khokar represented USA for one year in 2017 and tallied 15 caps to his name.

 

The goalkeepers for the tournament are Shomik Chakraborty (Washington, D.C.) and Phil Schofield (Moorpark, Calif.).

The traveling reserve is Leo Baumgardner (Thousand Oaks, Calif.).

 

At the 2016 JPAC, USA finished fourth falling to Chile in the bronze medal game.

 

USA sits in Pool A with Argentina and Trinidad and Tobago. They open against Argentina on Monday, August 23 at 2:00 p.m. ET and play Trinidad and Tobago on Tuesday, August 24 at 2:00 p.m. ET.

A Pre-JPAC Preparation Camp will take place August 9 through 15 in Moorpark, Calif. The squad will leave from there to travel to Chile together. Once onsite a few test matches will take place prior to the start of the event.

 

The top two men’s teams at the JPAC will qualify for the 2021 FIH Junior Hockey World Cup, set for November 25 to December 5 in India.
