Recap of Day 1 of Virtual 2022 National Coaches Forum
by USA Field Hockey
Day 1 is complete! The virtual 2022 National Coaches Forum (NCF) got underway today with three insightful sessions presented by world leading experts in their respective fields.
World Class Goalkeeper David Harte, Ireland’s Men’s National Team Captain at both the 2016 and 2018 Men’s Hockey World Cup, kicked things off by discussing the mental side of goalkeeping and how to incorporate goalkeepers in your trainings. Next, John O’Sullivan, Changing the Game Project founder, author of the excellent Every Moment Matters and internationally known speaker for coaches, parents and youth sport organizers, skillfully presented on how to establish a culture of excellence in your program, while citing examples from various teams that he's worked with on a daily basis.
Three collegiate championship winning coaches capped off day 1 with a panel. Michele Madison, University of Virginia Head Coach; Missy Meharg, University of Maryland Head Coach; and Inako Puzo, Miami University Head Coach, shared their insights on a range of topics and provided some wisdom into elements of their programs that underpinned their recent success.
The NCF continues tomorrow, December 8, starting at 11:00 a.m. ET with three more experts in their field in Jami Muelders, Germany Men's National Team Assistant Coach, on how to create a perfect working environment that starts with YOU, the coach, and Emilie Bydwell, USA Rugby Sevens Women Head Coach, who will present her experiences on ‘Bringing USA Rugby 7’s Game Model to Life’. To cap off the day, Ashley Merryman, acclaimed author of Top Dog and Nurture Shock, will present on the ‘Art and Science of Giving Feedback’.
