Junior High Performance Staff Names 2024 U.S. U-16 & U-18 Women’s National Teams

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Following a 3-day training camp held in Charlotte, N.C., the women’s Junior High Performance Staff have evaluated and finalized the squads for the 2024 U.S. U-16 and U-18 Women’s National Teams. The Junior USWNT will have their next training camp at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte from February 2 to 4, where athletes will compete for selection to one of the three traveling squads going on tour this spring.

“Our selection camp comprised three intense days of hockey training in Charlotte,” said Tamara Durante, U-16 USWNT Head Coach. “Every challenge was met with determination and every drop of sweat symbolized growth. Hence selections were difficult. Congratulations to the athletes who have earned their spot to our future training sessions! The journey has just begun, embrace the challenges, trust the process, and let's continue to strive for excellence as a squad.”

The U-16 USWNT traveling squad, a roster selected from the full squad, will head to Valkenswaard, The Netherlands in the last week of March to compete in a Four Nations Tournament. This is the same event they won first place last year, and they will compete this year against Belgium, France, Germany and Holland.

"This group of U-18 athletes at our selection camp this past weekend is one of the best and brightest in the USA Junior High Performance pathway,” said Stacey Bean, U-18 USWNT Stand-In Head Coach. “The level of depth in terms of talent, focus and determination on display throughout camp bodes well for the future of USA Field Hockey. Congratulations to the athletes who have been selected for the next phase in our training journey. I am excited to witness their continued growth and development as we move into the new year."

“I’m excited about the first steps taken by our group this weekend. From discussions with our staff, it’s clear that selections were challenging due to the high level of talent and work-rate on display.” said U-18 USWNT Head Coach Mark Egner, who is currently in Chile assisting the U-21 USWNT staff at the FIH Hockey Women’s Junior World Cup. “International competition will be incredibly beneficial for us all, and the work to be best prepared starts now. I’m incredibly grateful to all our staff for executing our plan at camp.”

The U-18 USWNT traveling squad will head to Leuven, Belgium to compete in a Four Nations Tournament against Belgium, Ireland and Spain. This year, USA will be sending a third traveling squad on tour, also to Leuven, Belgium, to compete in the same Four Nations Tournament as the U-18 traveling squad. This third team will compete against Belgium, France and Poland, and athletes on this third team will be a mix of U-16 and/or U-18 athletes.
