First Two Days of WMH World Cup in Tokyo Complete

TOKYO, Japan - Taking place at the Oi Hockey Stadium in Tokyo, Japan, the 2022 World Masters Hockey (WMH) World Cup competition got underway on Wednesday for the U.S. O-60 and O-65 Men's Masters Teams.

In their first pool game of the WMH World Cup, the U.S. O-60 Men's Masters Team took on Singapore. 

 

USA started fast, getting on the board in the first 3 minutes. Peter Bale (Roseburg, Ore.).

 

The red, white and blue added to their lead in the 45th minute off a Peter Jones (Stamford, Conn.) penalty corner goal.

The U.S. O-65 Men's Masters Team met a tough South Africa side in their opening match.

 

USA had a solid start in the first two quarters but went on to conceded six goals. For most athletes competing, this was their first-ever World Cup experience.

In their second pool match, the U.S. O-60 Men's Masters Team took on Australia.

 

Scoreless after the first half, Australia got on the board 4 minutes in to the third frame. They went on to score again in both the 60th and 66th minutes.

 

The U-60 Men are back on the field on Saturday, October 22 to tae on Scotland at 10:15 a.m. ET in their third pool match.

 

Ireland put the U.S. O-65 Men's Masters Team to the test in their second pool game.

 

Ireland opened the scoring in the 4th minute off a penalty corner. Static for a period, they went on to score two field goals within a minute in the 27th and 28th minutes, respectively. Ireland topped off their victory with a goal in the 52nd minute.

 

The U-65 Men have their third pool match on Sunday, October 23 at 2:30 a.m. ET against Australia.
