USA Field Hockey Invests in Men’s Field Hockey with Addition of Boys Development Manager

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – To aid in the support and growth of boy’s and men’s field hockey in the United States, USA Field Hockey has added the role of Boys Development Manager and filling this position will be Marc Bakerman. Bakerman will be responsible for supporting the organization’s commitment to grow and develop field hockey as a sport for all, a sport for life, primarily focusing on growing boy’s and men’s hockey throughout the country. Bakerman will also drive organizational sport development initiatives in southern California ahead of the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.

“I am really excited to welcome Marc formally to the USA Field Hockey Sport Development team,” said Sally Goggin, USA Field Hockey’s National Development Director. “We’ve worked together for years, and it’s clear that Marc shares our passion and commitment to growing field hockey for all, with a special interest and expertise in promoting and developing the game for boys. Marc will play an important role in growing boys field hockey across the country and supporting sport development in southern California.”

Bakerman has been involved in the sport in multiple capacities for several years being an active supporter and leader for the sport in California. He serves as the chair and tournament director for the California Cup, a longtime USA Field Hockey Sanctioned Event, and is the commissioner and competitions manager for Bulldogs Field Hockey Club. He is also a board member of the U.S. Men’s Field Hockey Foundation and is on USA Field Hockey’s LA28 Task Force for youth development and recruitment.

A fourth-generation resident of Los Angeles, Bakerman attended Canoga Park High School, where he was a four-sport athlete. He went on to attend and graduate from San Diego State University in a degree in marketing. He is a husband and father of three boys and currently resides in Westlake Village, Calif.

“The time is now,” said Bakerman. “We have an amazing opportunity to transform [field] hockey into a tier one sport by implementing an aggressive, but realistic plan. Globally, hockey is a gender equal sport. We can create equal opportunities throughout the United States for all boys, and then hockey will prosper for everyone. Our mission is for boys to play competitive hockey beginning in grade school, then progressing to high school, college and beyond. Introducing hockey, then creating league play to children in underserved and racially diverse communities will catapult our sport.”

The USA Field Hockey Sport Development team will work closely with U.S. Men’s National Team Head Coach Harry Singh and his staff, and all departments within the organization to develop and execute a strategic plan and calendar of consistent playing opportunities to drive boy’s growth. Additionally, USA Field Hockey has momentum in The Golden State with the formation of the California State Chapter, led by President Kendall Beveridge, and the partnership with the City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks. LA Rec and Parks will be kicking off 26 Discover Field Hockey Clinics for boys and girls starting July 17. Bakerman will play an important role in supporting these initiatives and the expanding State Chapter system.
